AIBU to want a wall of radiators?

TempName01 · 13/01/2022 17:32

Planning to do up my tiny utility room and one of the things I want to include is a way to dry clothes in the winter. At the moment I have clothes over the radiators through the house so I would really like a solution to this.

I have room for a mini dryer which I was thinking would be good for socks and pants but I need some ideas for how to dry the rest of the clothes. All ideas welcome! 😊

Buy an airer or one of those ones that are heated ?
I think Lakeland sell one of these.

Vileda 159760 Rewind 4 Retractable Washing Line Airer, Metal, White, 6.5 x 6.5 x 37 cm www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C7CMWCD/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_7PDZVS9W5B2PVKN5QNHC?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Fit things like this to the walls. And a normal radiator so that when the door is closer the room warms nicely.

JaninaDuszejko · 13/01/2022 17:36

How warm is the utility room? Ours is in the extension which is well insulated and it has a modern radiator in it and I can hang the clothes on a normal clothes horse and they dry in a day in the winter when the heating is on (and get hung outside in the summer).

Lots of people swear by the Lakeland heated clothes airer so that might be an option.

Earwigworries · 13/01/2022 17:37

Get a ceiling airer and hang it above a radiator … I dry stuff on hangers on one - can hold 2 washing loads

MilkTart · 13/01/2022 17:39

A dehumidifier, if you have a sink you can get one with a drainage hose do you don't even have to empty it!

hulahooper2 · 13/01/2022 17:54

Lakeland heated dryer , any none Heated clothes horse or a pulley. Radiators are an expensive way to dry washing , and your room won’t benefit from the heat

PattyPan · 13/01/2022 17:55

Pulley airer for the ceiling? Seems a waste to heat a room you’re not even in.

ShirleyPhallus · 13/01/2022 17:56

We’ve got an old fashioned dryer on a pulley, it’s absolutely amazing.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 13/01/2022 17:58

It seems like such a waste of money to me.

Get a pulley airer for the ceiling or buy a heated dryer and just keep it in the utility room year-round.

FOJN · 13/01/2022 18:00

If you are replacing the flooring I'd think about an underfloor electric heating mat, relatively easy to install and you can then use a standard clothes airer.

we have 2 rails in our utility and run a dehumidifier.

TempName01 · 13/01/2022 18:21

Thanks everyone, I do actually have a humidifier and pulley airer thing but it is quite a cold damp room as is in the basement. Also the airer isn’t big enough for a full load. My dream is to be able to dry a full load really quickly and not keep having to check what’s dry and swap it out 🙂

Those with an airer and dehumidifier how long does it take to dry things?

Yes drying on hangers is genius, I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me as I do this on the line outside sometimes!

This Lakeland outlet on eBay is amazing, everything I've bought from it has been perfect. They also do the heated rails.

Rubyupbeat · 13/01/2022 18:50

I have 2 heated airers from Lakeland, they dry overnight including jeans.
I use my tumble for towels and linen

TheNoodlesIncident · 13/01/2022 19:18

Is there no space for a regular tumble drier (with a water reservoir so it doesn't have to be next to a sink)? Ours heats our garden room with the warm air from it, so hanging clothes up around it will work well too.

PonyPatter44 · 13/01/2022 19:29

I love my heated airer. We have a tumble dryer now, but the airer is still perfect for drying jumpers and anything else that needs to be flat or that can't go in the dryer.

I have a laundry setting on mine and it takes 6hrs
murasaki · 14/01/2022 14:06

We have a dribuddy, its ace if you can keep a window open slightly for ventilation. Dp also enjoys the white noise for sleeping, the big weirdo, even though its not in the bedroom.
