To wonder how people use taxis to get to a&e

Whenever I’ve needed to go to a&e I’ve even been bleeding a lot or been being sick due to an illness. Aibu to wonder how people use taxis as would imagine the driver wouldn’t take too kindly to vomit in their car.

For God sake, not every emergency requires blood !

This has got to be the most ridiculous AIBU

@Emerald5hamrock

the ambulance man who happened to be there (with another patient in his ambulance) insisted I needed an ambulance. He never even suggested I should get a taxi or phone a friend. Wow that is a crazy waste of money and services, when DD broke her arm I put her in a buggy and sprinted, there's 2 local hospitals within 2 miles.
What a silly response. You really know better than a paramedic, do you? Who was there and used his medical judgement? You know exactly where I was and where the nearest hospital was?

No, of course you don’t.

Why the silly attempt at one-upmanship?
It’s not big and it’s not clever.

It was your elbow, he could hardly advise you to call a cab.
Like the pesky repeat callers they can't refuse the call-out just incase.
If for example you'd banged your head and didn't notice with the arm injury, if he advised you to take a taxi and you passed out he'd be in serious trouble.
I genuinely wasn't being silly.
You could have risk assessed yourself and took a taxi.
I'm self conscious of calling an ambulance I have family who work for the service and they do get frustrated if a serious call-out occurs when they're transporting a broken arm.

You really were. And you still are.

You not a paramedic.
You were not there
The paramedic who was there and saw the road traffic accident judged my injuries to be serious enough for an ambulance.
Its obvious he knew better than you - because you know precisely zero about the situation.

I took taxis x2 when in labour the hospital is half hour away. When in taxi my waters broke I give birth 8 mins after getting out so could of been alot worse. Taxi driver was absolutely fantastic never took the payment to have his cab cleaned or for the journey he has picked me up many atimes since then I always give him a decent tip.

@EmpressSuiko

Our hospital sent a taxi to our house to collect my DH as the ambulances would have taken too long to reach him as he wasn’t in a life threatening state and he couldn’t drive himself.
I've also had this happen to me after phoning 111.

Had an accident at work. Took an Uber to hospital. Found out I'd broken my ankle.

I think unless you are at acute risk of death it's best to make your own way to hospital or you'd be waiting hours. Such as the service is these days.

I took my son to a&e in a taxi after he severed a finger. There was surprisingly little blood but what blood there was was contained.

NamechangedforthisillgowithBob · 13/01/2022 22:40

Can you seriously not imagine a trip to A&E not involving blood or vomit?
