Just that really.
Don't have children.
Don't have a dog to walk.
Don't have any hobbies.
Office job sitting on arse all day.
Asthma and arthritis.
Morbidly obese and need to lose weight before it kills us.
Partner in a similar situation.
How can I lose weight without walking a dog or going to a gym - I'm too fat so I'm not humiliating myself.
Ideas, please?
YouTube channels? Games? Silly tricks people do? I do have a step counter and I'm only getting a few hundred steps in a day at the moment. I sit on my bum at work, drive home and then I cba to exercise coz I'm tired. I need to start taking action!

Please don't me cruel in the comments. I'm asking for help not pitchforks.

Walk to work, cycle to work. Even take public transport don’t just get on your car.

If it’s really really non walkable (ie over an hour to walk) then drive part way and walk rest. You need to change your life!

Volunteer to walk a dog? Cinnamon trust recruits dog walkers for elderly/ill people.

Or how about just go for walks. Make a playlist on your phone, initially 20 mins and add an extra song each week. 3 x a week, rain or shine. Once you get a bit fitter try couch to 5k and do parkrun (walking at first if needed)

Lots of active people don't have children or dogs. In the kindest way possible, you need to stop using that as an excuse. Find ways to build activity into your routine (standing desk, lunchtime walk etc) or find active hobbies that you actually enjoy.

find a local park to walk to that's popular with Dog walkers - work out what time of day they go, aim for that, go along and have a chat, walk home again.

Coffee Walk
If you live somewhere with pret a manger branches, join their subscription scheme. I know that sounds counter intuitive, but pick a pret that it's a nice walk to go to, stick to black americano or tea when you get there, walk home again. Because you don't need to get a wallet or payment card out to get your coffee, it's brilliant for training yourself into going for a coffee and not getting cake or other goodies to go wiht it.
You'll be encouraged to go out everyday to get your moneys worthGrin

I actually think it’s easier to exercise without children! Every time I try to do any I have mine trying to join in which involves just getting in the way! Walking is easier without children meaning they are tired/ bored as well. Don’t need a dog to go for a walk either

I don't have a dog or DC to walk, so I take myself for a walk. I put my earphones in and walk along well lit safe streets when it's dark and in the woods on light mornings/evenings. If you don't want to go out and about, would you have funds/space for a home cross trainer to use while watching television? I won't lie though, if you don't like activity (I don't) both are boring so another idea might be to do things at weekends with hidden exercise, like walking round a museum or stately home.

Definitely until you have two teenage son's that tower over you.You feel like roles have been reversed and they have to slow down for you to catch up!!

Not sure what you mean - why can you not walk without a dog?

mocktail · 13/01/2022 22:48

I have kids and walked a lot more before I had them - they're my excuse for not doing any exercise Blush

I think it's really easy to make excuses when really we both need to crack on Smile
