What is wrong with me ???

I’ve noticed when I’m studying (currently in year 3 of a 4 year degree) I’ll start making silly mistakes. It’s always happened since I was at school and it’s getting annoying now! I remember as a kid my teacher would circle all the mistakes a made towards the end of a paper and they were always really embarrassing.

I’ll start to misspell every word when I’m writing or typing, and I don’t mean things like your/you’re or to/two/too or difficult words to spell, I mean I’ll start misspelling easy words by missing out random letters. So I could be writing the word ‘easy’ and I’ll forget the s. Or I might write the word apple and put 2 b’s instead of p’s. Sometimes I notice the mistake straight away but sometimes I don’t and when I read my writing back it’s absolute garbage. Or I’ll put the wrong letter altogether, like instead of carrot I’ll put karrot or carrod. It’s not really misspelling I suppose it’s more like missing letters/parts of the word. Or sometimes I’ll start halfway through a word so instead of covid I would think covid in my head but put vid.

I know im tired like most students but my friends said this doesn’t happen to them. I don’t feel physically tired although I notice it happens when im studying for a while so maybe it is subconscious tiredness but it’s really annoying now, does anyone know how to stop this? Slowing down my writing and typing hasn’t helped so far. Thanks :)

Dyslexia?!

OnWednesdaysWeWearPink44 · 12/01/2022 20:14

I was wondering that but I wasn’t sure because i don’t have any other symptoms like with reading and it mostly only happens when I’m studying 😮

Well I'm not up to speed on every symptom of dyslexia but it's worth reading up on...There are traits common to people with it unrelated to letters, like fastidiousness for example.

If it helps, I'm educated to post graduate level and my typos often include missed letters - or even missed words. I don't muddle letters (k for c) though.

Tried to change my name back to this username to bump my post but had a bit of a fail! 😂 woops.

Just wondered if anyone else has this and what they find helpful for stopping it. As I said I’m in university (yr3) and I also work several times a week too in a job that involves a lot of writing and note taking so it’s vettings a bit tiring having to correct all the words!Sad

Can you cut down on work a bit before your exams? You sound exhausted.

Make sure you’re well - women are often deficient in iron and B vitamins and these can affect concentration and tiredness.

I would also investigate dyslexia, as you might be okay early in a session while you have the energy to really concentrate, but that wears you out towards the end of a task and your focus slips.

It sounds like dyslexia. I used to work with university students with dyslexia. Contact your student services and ask whether they do a preliminary assessment. The university should have some support on offer. Good luck.

I would be interested to know how you get on.
