Basically having issues with parcels being delivered from Hermes over the last 18 months. On one occasion, partner & I were away for an overnight so there was no one at home, blinds were all closed so clearly no sign of life (however I do appreciate night shift people may have blinds closed etc during the day). Anyway I would think if you knocked door and didn't get a response you would either need to take the parcel back and leave a 'sorry we missed you card' or put in a safe place (our back garden is accessible and some other couriers leave behind our bins etc). Anyway next day came home from our overnight and neighbour across the street came over with a parcel, apparently the hermes driver had left it on my doorstep the day before and the weather was wet and windy and as the parcel was quite light it blew across the street into my neighbours bushes and as a result packaging ripped and the cardigan that was inside was damaged too so I had to go to effort of returning etc.
But i've now witnessed that the delivery driver doesn't seem to knock the door at all and instead just drops parcels off and drives away. On a few occassions i've been working from home, saw the van drive by the window then away again and when i've opened my front door there's been a parcel sitting. Also one evening my mum came to visit and when she came in she had lifted a parcel that had been sitting on my doorstep and must've been there for hours as it was sodden! And the door definitely wasn't knocked as I had been home all day!
AIBU to expect a better service? I do wonder if a lot of this is down to the pandemic as before covid you had to sign for most parcels but now with 'contactless delivery' it seems drivers are using this as an excuse to dump parcels and run. With a lot of websites, it doesn't tell you who the courier will be in advance, for the websites that do tell you, it puts me off ordering from there if it says hermes! I also worry about the security aspect if a parcel is left on my doorstep when I'm out a passer by could take this!
