To think ghost stories are BS, but my experience was a bit odd?

I moved into a 1950’s house previously occupied by a couple. They were the sole occupants since it was built. The husband died, and a few years later the wife moved to a care home. The house was then put on the market.

Our first night in the house, we’d put a car seat centrally on a table. It fell off.
Few days later, I heard our piano being played - I went in the room and no one was there.
Then a week or so later - daughter went to the bathroom, froze and said there’s someone in there. She described the person as a male, like a shadow and wearing a suit. I hadn’t mentioned anything about ghosts to her, and told her it was just a shadow - perhaps Daddy had walked past when she was about to go in. For a few weeks after she was scared of the bathroom, wanted an adult with her. And now - if ghosts come up in a book/on TV - she always refers back to this experience.

A few other weird things happened. And then nothing else. The house felt ‘creepy’ for a while. Absolutely nothing creepy about it now.

If course it’s ridiculous to think it was a ghost, but what was I experiencing? Was it just the strangeness of moving somewhere new? Just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?

Iamthewombat -
''Here we go. You’re losing the argument so you’re crying about aggression.''

''Here is why you shouldn’t use your own questionable supernatural experiences as the basis of a statement that ghosts, or ‘hat men’, or fallen angels, or ‘orbs’, or whatever, 100% exist.''

By the way - and the above quote was aimed at me - which poster has said their experience means ''ghosts, or ‘hat men’, or fallen angels, or ‘orbs’ '' 100% exist?

lol condescending isn't an insult.

Dictionary corner: the last refuge of the loser. Actually, that’s not true. The last refuge of the loser is the flounce. Can’t wait for that.

Have you read the thread? Pinkbonbon has stated several times that her ‘shadow demon’ hat man fallen Angel experience definitely happened. There’s some on the previous page. Check.

Laiste · 16/01/2022 18:43

I actually think you're very funny Iamthewombat Grin

You must be a riot in rl.

Pinkbonbon · 16/01/2022 18:44

Tbf I did say something like 'hate to tell you but they are real'. But obviously that is my opinion. And opinions don't need to be proved. I also further clarified that just because I believe in the supernatural does not mean I or anyone who does, has all the answers as to what these things are.

Well, it did definately happen. Like who's on here going 'I had this experience that actually didn't happen'. Lol
Laiste · 16/01/2022 18:45

People saying their own experience definitely happened isn't at the same time saying everyone on this thread's experience and opinion is real.

Did you read what happened to me? Did i say i believed in ghosts?

Iamthewombat · 16/01/2022 18:46

You didn’t say it was your opinion in your previous post. You said that ghosts were 100% real.

It’s impossible to dissuade people from a dearly held belief using logic, of course.

No I didn't. And one does not have to say something is an opinion. Everything anyone writes on here is an opinion because this is mumsnet, not a copy of Science Weekly.

Laiste · 16/01/2022 18:51

I actually said i didn't believe in ghosts!

Pinkbonbon · 16/01/2022 18:54

I think thay one was addressed to me pp.
I believe in 'ghosts' but not sure I believe in dead people coming back to haunt us. So I believe in 'ghosts', not necessrily ghosts lol. Though, anything is possible. And i felt that way before and after my experience.

Pinkbonbon · 16/01/2022 18:56

Perhaps I should as 'disclaimer: this is simply an opinion' incase no one can figure that out xD

I’m not trawling through a 13 page thread to find a specific post. I’ve got better things to do. You could always check for yourself, if you haven’t.

Iamthewombat · 16/01/2022 19:00

I am entertained by the notion that someone who claims to have conjured up a fire demon using a luck spell from Take a Break or whatever says that she doesn’t believe in ghosts.

Now5sos · 16/01/2022 19:01

I'm still not sure whether I believe in ghosts or not
Always thought it was total Bs
The only thing that makes me wonder is 26 yrs ago pregnant with my 1st DD, we were living with my DH mum, both had left for work and I was alone in the house.
I had breakfast and walked up the stairs to have a shower, just before the last 2 steps I felt so sick and faint and thought I was going to fall, I felt a hand on my back pushing me up to the landing.
Thought DH or Mil had come home suddenly unexpected but no just me, sprawled out on the landing.
They both said it was his mum looking after me, not sure if I believe still but I still remember something stopping me from falling

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 16/01/2022 19:02

I’ve got better things to do I think we can all say with 100% certainty you do not.

Check what? Weather or not i said i believe in ghosts?

No, i know i said at the beginning of my first post here that i did not believe in ghosts.

For someone so wrapped up in facts it's strange to hear you say you can't be bothered to find something out Grin

Fallen angels (which I think is the most likely) technically aren't ghosts though.

It's the psychic scenario again.

Also I don't 'not belive in ghosts'. I just don't necessarily believe in them either. It's perfectly possible. I've just never experienced it.

The difference between us is that u say 'I have not seen so it is not real'. I say 'I have not seen so I fo not know'.

Laiste · 16/01/2022 19:05

@Laiste

Well here's what happened to me. I had 2 experiences in the same building a few weeks apart. I have told them before on MN.

I should say i don't believe in 'ghosts' and i really don't want to believe in anything else to be honest!

So the first thing was I had a tea cup fall onto the floor out of nowhere right behind me (it smashed). I was at work - a collection of buildings - some old, some not. The part of it i was in at the time was not.

I was the only person in that particular building at the time, i needed the loo and had walked down an empty corridor and had just arrived at the loo door, which stood open. I was perfectly happy, going home soon. Just before i stepped through the door into the loo cubicle the cup smashed right behind my feet in the corridor.

I looked around obvs. Corridor empty Confused I had to pick up the bits, and put it in the bin. It was clean, a plain pale green old fashioned style tea cup. I'd never seen this cup in the staff room.

Weirdly in the moment i wasn't overly spooked by it. There was no feeling of malice or dread in the air. I mean it was sunny outside, ground floor, big windows and it was a bright clean modern building. I just thought it was bloody odd!

A few weeks later i was walking down the same corridor but a bit further along. Alone in the building again. Sunny again. About to go home again. I walked past an 'open to the corridor' carpeted area on my right, picked my phone up from a desk round the corner and walked back again. Didn't take much longer than it took you to read this paragraph.

As i had passed the carpeted bit the first time i had noticed some bits and pieces which had been kicked under a coat rack and made a mental note i'd pick them up the next morning. Walking back past the carpeted area i glanced to my left and there in the middle of the floor were all the bits that had been under the coat rack. They were balanced perfectly one on top of the other in a 'tower'. About 3 foot high i guess.

I have zero explanation. I didn't touch it, i stopped and looked and then carried on walking! I only started to freak out a bit after i'd left the building. Delayed reaction.

I didn't tell anyone at work for obvious reasons, but couple of days later someone who works in that carpeted room said a weird thing had happened to her - a clock had fallen off the wall above her desk and instead of landing on the desk had sort of shot into the middle of the carpet area about 10 feet away. Same spot where the tower had appeared. She said it didn't bounce off the desk - just flew off the wall!

I still never said anything about what had happened to me. I have in fact only told 3 or 4 people in my life because it's all just too - weird and unsettling :(

Anyway i've saved you the trouble. It took about 12 seconds to ''trawl through''.

See the thing @Iamthewombat i dont care whether you believe me or not.
I dont have to prove anything to you.
I know my experiences where real.
I know the difference between sleep paralysis, dreams coming true and things happening while im wide awake.

While not specifically creepy, there were two unexplained occurrences in my parent’s house when I was young.
It was newly built when I was three. The land has been in the family for 150 years and was never more than farmland to our knowledge. Anyway, one evening when I was six, I was home alone with my mother. We were just finished cleaning up after dinner and we were in the kitchen, sitting at the table and chatting. Suddenly, the toilet flushed. Checked the house and we were definitely alone.
When I was a teenager, my bedroom was on the ground floor. There was another above mine. I woke up late one morning during the summer. The house was quiet but my parents are keen gardeners so I assumed that my mother was outside in the garden. I pottered around a bit, went to the toilet, then went back to my room to read a magazine (90s!). I heard my brother hop off his bed upstairs and take three steps to the window. Didn’t pay too much attention, but remember thinking that he was so loud. Eventually got hungry and went to get some breakfast. Found a note from my Mum to say that she had taken my brother shopping and was leaving me to sleep in. I was definitely home alone.
When we moved out, my parents moved into my old room. Their old bedroom, the box room and my brother’s bedroom are now guest rooms. Oddly, my first choice of rooms is always my brother’s old room while he flatly refuses to sleep in it. He picks the box room which has my parent’s old room between it and his old room. He never wants to talk about why he won’t sleep there. It’s a thoroughly pleasant house and room though!

I’ve read some of the ghost stories on this site and other sites.
It’s not usually the ghost stories I like, it’s the weird experiences. Or unusual occurrences.
I did post a few stories from another site...
