but does anyone else think that giving a 4.5 month old a tube of choc buttons for xmas is a good idea/present!

I know Im going to sound like a moaning cow...but sometimes it amazes me what presents my inlaws give to our dcs! I was sorting through all the pressies and putting them in piles today under the tree after their visit...when I noticed two tubes wrapped up, one for each of our dc's...dd who is 4.5 months and ds who is 3. I knew instantly that they were tubes of chocolate buttons....so have hidden them (and Ive had a cheeky peek, and Im right!). I couldnt believe it, shes not even on solids yet! I was literally gobsmaked. I remember ds's first xmas which was when he turned one, and they did the same for him then. I was very anal when I had ds, he ate only organic food and didnt have chocolate or sweets until he was just under 2. He does get very hyper with sugar. I was appalled when they did it then...although I am somewhat more laid back now...Im not that bad now, promise! But still...for a 4 month old! And its not just that....my MIL phoned a few months ago and asked what she could get ds for xmas, and we gave her a couple of ideas of some things i knew he would love. Two days later she phones to tell us that shes got him play dough...which he was mounds of as my mum went mental last year and bought tons of the stuff! So then I had to go out and buy him the things I had originally suggested, as he had put them in his letter to santa, and I really wanted him to have them! I know I shouldnt moan, as it is just the thought...and i probably would have chuckled at the fact we now have enough play dough to run a play group with, but why phone and ask what to get him in the first place? Does anyone else have this problem?!

I agree with C&L - i'd eat them - the older one would have a few but i'd deffo not let the younger one have them.

least they have something to open

MulledWino · 24/12/2007 19:58

Perhaps she just thought you'd save them until the 4 month old was allowed to have chocolate and thought you'd let the three year old, as its Christmas and all?

ScottishMummy · 24/12/2007 20:02

awww smile graciously, then scoff yourself

mumof2pixies · 24/12/2007 20:06

I now its Christmas..and Id knew id sound like a meany!!
I suppose I just assumed that they actually thought that a baby under 1, or 9 months say, would eat chocolate. I was just amazed. That, and in a way I feel bad because its a waste of their money...but I would sound like a right cow if I said not to bother!
...and yes the 3 year old will be eating some sweeties Im sure...
Although it did occur to me that the inlaws have done this on purpose, knowing full well that if I was silly enough to let both of stuff their faces with sweets all day I would have tantrums and hyperness galore all day...Im sure they couldnt possibly be that evil!!

Ds does turn into a right monster when he has chocolate...
I must go and finish wrapping!!!

mumof2pixies - happy christmas yep like you im organic weaning, home made dinners, no carbonated drinks etc because wee one goes ga-ga like kiddie cocaine

when folk give me contraband i eat 'em

chocolatecoinmumofdj · 24/12/2007 20:16

I would eat them

Reallytired · 24/12/2007 20:18

I think that the thought counts, even if the present is woefully inapproipate.

If it was me I would let the 3 year old eat the chocolate gradually. However if you don't want your three year old eating chocolate then that is fair enough.

If you eat the baby's chocolate then the baby will get the chocolate via breastmilk.

oh NO, 3 is MUCH too young for all that chocolate.

Give him raisins

buttons are very nice, I find

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 24/12/2007 20:23

oh I love choc buttons. Wish people would give my DC some

beeper · 24/12/2007 20:24

Why dont you melt the buttons into liquid chocolate, mix it with a rusk and milk and put it in the bottle.....that will give you a quiet half and hour......

mumof2pixies · 24/12/2007 20:26

lol at that post!! Should I phone the inlaws on Christmas day and tell them I did that!
