Nintendo switch games and education

Am I being stupid or are there absolutely no switch games designed to help kids practise their times tables or grammar or whatever? There surely must be one with a bit of reading or whatever?

why should there be? its an odd ask.

Animal crossing teaches you stuff about fish/bugs and has lots of written dialogue in it. not sure how old your kids are or what your after, cant the kids have a break from education theres plenty of websites for that.

twominutesmore · 11/01/2022 15:12

Apps to do that job

coodawoodashooda · 11/01/2022 15:13

I didn't think it was an odd ask. I thought it was fair enough

It's fine to ask but I'd be surprised if there were many to be honest. It's a games console not an educational tool.

The "it'll help me with my homework" argument has been around since the days of the ZX Spectrum though...

LongestBedtimeStoryEver · 11/01/2022 15:17

If there are, they wouldn’t be the ones my kids picked 😊. I think they have benefits in other ways though! Mine do some incredible things on minecraft for example.

Mundra · 11/01/2022 15:18

It's an entertainment system, not meant to be particularly educational, it's meant to be fun. Is it because you're thinking of previous Nintendo games which included language learning, big brain academy etc (trust me, they're barely educational).

BooksAndGin · 11/01/2022 15:18

There's a few cooking games that teach measurements and basic maths.
Animal crossing teaches about dinosaurs, animals, bugs, money. Why does everything have to be educational all the time?
Sometimes it's nice for kids to just be kids.

Hollyhead · 11/01/2022 15:19

I found that gaming in general really brought on my 6 year old’s reading fluency.

BooksAndGin · 11/01/2022 15:19

Ah yes minecraft. That's definitely educational, and requires math skills. It's taught me things I didn't know let alone my kids. Grin

twominutesmore · 11/01/2022 15:26

I've just googled 'educational games for Nintendo switch' and loads came up, who knew.

Could you tell me the basic maths one please?

Being confident at basic skills is fun.
