To schedule booster after annual leave

Meatandseventeenveg · 10/01/2022 17:34

So the disclaimer is that I know a lot of people just have to have the booster whenever it's available, and some people do have significant side effects.

My colleague just took an extended Christmas break (though not away on holiday), and was due to return to work today. She scheduled some quite important client meetings for today, but then she didn't come in as she had the booster yesterday and was feeling unwell. She didn't reschedule the meetings either; rather, she palmed them off on us and even obliged one colleague to run a meeting on an account he didn't know at all.

We're all feeling very indignant and believe she should have arranged her booster during the holidays or at least on a day where she wasn't working the following day (p/t worker).

Are we being unreasonable to be annoyed with her?

Oh I see now she had side effects with previous. Even so, I think it's just one of those things really.
Presumably her sick leave is within normal limits or she'd be seeing HR.

Findingthelight1 · 10/01/2022 20:15

YABU and a total drama llama. At my work we've all mainly just popped out for boosters whenever we can (front line, demanding role) and gone straight back to work. Those who unfortunately were ill were ill, and took time off. We covered. We coped.
What we didn't do was sit about bitching about other people's medical issues.

Missushbb · 10/01/2022 20:18

@Meatandseventeenveg

Does it make any difference that I now have to spend my evening working to catch up with the stuff I couldn't do today because of covering her? I suppose that means I should be annoyed with my company, rather than the individual, for ending up in this position.
are you never off work? you will obviously not listen to anyone that doesn't agree with you.
Missushbb · 10/01/2022 20:20

@Meatandseventeenveg

Okay I shall accept that I was being unreasonable. I shall try to reframe it and be happy that I could help her in her hour of need. I shall also take all future medical appointments during office hours in order to preserve my own leave.
she took her medical appointment during a day off. this is unbelievably petty
Hugasauras · 10/01/2022 20:21

But she did take her appointment on her day off? Which I don't think is even necessarily with Covid boosters personally. Most people just want them done ASAP and some places have been so busy you just get when you can. In Scotland for our first jabs we just got told when turn up anyway.

Singleorigincoffee · 10/01/2022 21:01

Wow YABU

Her medical record and appointments is not your business. She could have taken the earliest available to herself as in she might have had other errands or things on in her life.

And if she gets unwell on it, how is that her fault?!

You're a massive corporate simp.

Offmyfence · 10/01/2022 21:07

@Svara

That's you, not me! Could say the same. You were the one to first quote my post Hmm. We all do what we need to I guess.
And it makes a difference because I know how to use the quote function because.... ...
Svara · 10/01/2022 21:14

@Offmyfence I can't quote your posts as there are already quotes in them, it doesn't work.

I have had a nightmare with vaccines and side effects. We were on a vaccine trial and then we have been told to have 2 x Pfizer jabs as our vaccine has not been approved yet.

1st Pfizer had it on a Saturday was as sick as anything for 9 days. You name the side effect I had it.

2nd Pfizer had it Saturday just gone and yes you guessed it sick as a dog again, although not quite as severe as the first one.

I had a week off work with the first one and I don't know how long I will be off this time. Hopefully not as long. I feel awful for people I work with, but then I also feel that I stepped up when millions of other people didn't to find vaccines to get us out of this shit show and now trial participants are being disadvantaged. There is some anecdata that novavax and Pfizer is not a good mix for side effects but they are not doing any trials on it so no one can day for sure.

sirfredfredgeorge · 10/01/2022 21:32

With hindsight, if
a)he meetings could have been rescheduled and
b) you and your colleagues were really too busy to cover them
you should have all pushed back and asked her to reschedule

No, she's off SICK, it is not her responsibility to reschedule the meetings, it's one of the employees who's working, she can't make it, she's sick.

That the other employees are too incompetent to go "actually, we don't have time for this meeting, let's call up the other and say 'Maud's off today unfortunately, need to postpone, Maud can re-arrange a time when she's back, or talk to Peter if anything can't wait until then'", then this isn't Maud's fault unless she's responsible for managing these people.

TheHateIsNotGood · 10/01/2022 21:43

Don't you have some work to get on with other than indignantly gossiping with your colleagues OP?

Maybe, like me, your 'othered' colleague had the first 2 jabs no prob and was surprised to spend about 48hrs mostly sleeping after the booster?

Which, btw, for a 'vax side-effect' was quite enjoyable really - thankfully I'm self-employed so no back-stabbing by "indignant" colleagues.

Reminds me why I'm self-employed too.

blessings2022 · 10/01/2022 21:44

I purposely booked mine mid week. Why would you want to be ill on your own time rather than on company time??

DailyMailHater · 10/01/2022 21:46

I had 3.5 weeks off for Christmas (due to not being able to use annual leave at various points in the year due to projects) the only date I could get for my booster was late afternoon on my first day back at work so had to leave early and was then ill for 2 days - nothing I could do about it had terrible guilt but I couldn’t get a booster appointment any earlier.

Christ on a bike, are you all like this?
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/01/2022 09:35

I think she was foolish to book it the day before important meetings, if she had any choice at all. So yanbu on that count.

I don’t think it should have to be the hols though. I had mine on a Monday but did work the next day anyway despite feeling unwell with side effects. Just picked the Monday as it was the first available day!

HairyScaryMonster · 12/01/2022 10:56

I wouldn't expect her to book before a non working day necessarily, but before a day of client meetings is bonkers.
