I was bitten over the weekend - Kept it cleaned out but had a phone appointment this morning at 9. Started antibiotics straight away.

I keep getting muscle cramps on my calf (where the bite was) and the red area has increased significantly since my phone call. I’m really worried, can’t straighten my leg, can barely walk and can’t get it comfortable. Part of me think I’m being a drama queen, part of me thinks I am wise to be concerned. It seems to be worsening quite rapidly. Am I expecting too much if the antibiotics?

YABU - You’re a drama queen
YANBU - yeah call doc back before they close. It shouldn’t be this bad

I once got cellulitis from a bite , I'm a know and by the time I said something my leg was significantly bigger than the other one. I had the bullseye type thing that they say is usually from a tick bite

ABS cleared it up but I got a real bollocking from the dr for leaving it so long

It was very painful in the end

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/01/2022 23:54

That should say I'm a knob

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/01/2022 23:56

I've just seen the picture, for some reason it didn't come up before. yeah, mine was very similar

Stigsmother · 13/01/2022 00:09

You don't sound aggressive op, just in pain and worried, which is perfectly understandable Flowers

PixieLaLa · 13/01/2022 00:13

Did the hospital have a proper look? I’m just wondering if your symptoms aren’t from the bite and something else could be going on like a blood clot.

NewYearNewMinty · 13/01/2022 00:33

I hope you're on the way back to A & E now, if not, please go and keep persisting.

My mum was bitten by something a couple of weeks before Christmas. 5 days later her arm showed signs of infection so we saw nurse practitioner and got ABs.

Following day a huge bruise appeared. To cut a long story short the infection caused a burst blood vessel and because she was on blood thinners she ended up with a massive haematoma which spread from two inches above her elbow down to her thumb joint.

It took 4 visits to the GP and 2 lots of ABs but did clear up eventually, thank goodness.

PinchOfVom · 13/01/2022 00:37

I asked the doctor this morning
“Is it right that I’m having all these muscle cramps in the calf “

And she said yes it’s just inflammation

I was so clear about it

That’s three times now so maybe I have to accept that this is just a very sore problem

It’s sore enough that I’m going to dog out my crutches tomorrow 🙄🙄🙄🙄💩💩💩

I just feel very uneasy.
And angry.

I’ve had constant issues for the last three years starting with a ruptured Achilles.

Just constant shit.

Have you had any flu like symptoms? I've had cellulitis a few times but once a really serious bout. Mine also originated in my calf but travelled up to my groin. It was agony and like you could barely walk. Then followed a temperature with flu like symptoms which were so bad I was hallucinating. It was very scary. Please be careful.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 13/01/2022 01:35

I think it depends how you react to them. I could be bitten by 100 horse flies and nothing
My mum? One horse fly bite and her whole arm can double in size and be bright red
She went to the GP with one once and said "I've been bitten"
GP "by what? A wasps nest?!" Grin

PinchOfVom · 13/01/2022 07:09

All my vitals are totally fine, it’s the reason they sent me home from a&e

I don’t normally text to anything at all and have zero health anxiety. But since covid jabs I’ve deliver arthritis and my periods are grinding to a halt so it wouldn’t surprise me of this massive over reaction is due to a ducked up immune system

@PinchOfVom
How are you?

PinchOfVom · 15/01/2022 11:17

Pretty bad

I changed antibiotics to avoid an abcess proceeding

I’ve woken up with a huge
Black blister -like 3xm across

Don’t know if in need a&e or not

SleepingDoglets · 15/01/2022 11:29

I would go and get it seen.

Darkstar4855 · 15/01/2022 11:30

With a new blister I would get it seen. There’s been plenty of time for the antibiotics to work now and it’s not improving. 111 can advise you on best place to go.

justasking111 · 15/01/2022 12:00

Back you go to the hospital, you'll need different drugs I suspect.

I would want that seen to. Black isn't a healthy colour and you may need it debrided.
FrogIAm · 15/01/2022 18:02

Hope you’ve spoken to someone or in the process of getting seen again today.
