Not wealthy etc but just classy and graceful.

My SIL seems to navigate all situations perfectly, I so envy her!

@WakkaWakkaWakka but it doesn't sound like an equal friendship. You want her to favour you, she doesn't let you too close.

PotatoPie888 · 09/01/2022 22:13

In all honesty it seems like classy equals deathly dull.

PotatoPie888 · 09/01/2022 22:15

I prefer women with a bit of fire in their belly. Each to their own.

merrygoround51 · 09/01/2022 22:17

Honestly. I think you have to be thin and preferrably tall

@pawpatrolneedaunion

Probably not muttering "ffs" under your breath 40 times during the 20 minute school run. So that's me out.
At least you've got company, I'm out too 😂

Be Kristin Scott Thomas.

If you aren't...just give up and be yourself!

Are classy people dead behind the eyes?

Rogue1001 · 09/01/2022 22:31

You called?

My mum is always classy, as was my Nana. I don't generally manage to be.

As far as looks they both were always well groomed in public, stylish and appropriate and my Nana was rather dashing, but not ostentatious. Tidy and put together. They knew their etiquette, not in an annoying way but they knew what was expected in an interaction, and how to make people feel at ease. They knew when to keep their thoughts to themselves and when to say something. They always went for quality over quantity. Not brand obsessed, my grandmother always said brands were vulgar which probably reflects to some extent when she grew up, but even my mum would never wear something like an obviously branded handbag. Clothing always looked bother current and timeless, which is not always easy to pull off.

I seem to have my dad's style genes.

not holidaying in Dubai
Not wearing overly-blinged designer tat
Not having to share every breath you take/every move you make on insta
Not thinking you are entitled to bend the rules for your convenience

WakkaWakkaWakka · 10/01/2022 08:16

@pawpatrolneedaunion she isn’t my friend Grin

That just made me burst out laughing. Thank you! And happy Monday school run...

I disagree about not swearing. Did no-one ever watch Prime Suspect? Judicious swearing to make a point as opposed to effing and blinding hen you're stressed is fine.

Aside from that: I don't think its really a dressing/grooming thing primarily, its really a state of mind.
The single most important factor is not really giving a tinker's cuss what other people think of you and not jumping through hoops to please them.
Also being gracious and respectful to people regardless of where you think they are in the social hierarchy. People who smile up and shit down are deeply lacking in class.
Good, elegant grooming helps too I think but its window dressing.
