To expect slightly better customer service than 'yeah, must've been nicked, love' from a courier service?

Oooh, I'm !

Having taken advice from MN on the Christmas thread re. iPods, we ordered 2 on the 11th from Amazon, they being cheapest and able to deliver before Crimbo. Promised delivery by 19th Dec.

Hadn't arrived by 20th, checked online to see what was happening and they had arrived at the depot of the courier on the 18th. As it is Christmas, decided to wait til Friday 21st before chasing up, no arrival on Fri so sent an email to Amazon, as the courier had no phone no. on its website

On SUNDAY I got a response from Amazon saying it was a very busy time of year and they would chase it up but I should be patient.

I then googled the courier company and found (on a website moaning about how shite they were) their phone no. and address, which turned out to be up the road from where DH works.

So I rang them this morning and asked if, as they were so busy, our parcel was still sitting on a shelf somewhere in their warehouse, could DH come up with proof of address and pick it up?

I got this extremely bored sounding woman who said 'oh, no, love, if it came in on the 18th it would have gone out by now. As it hasn't, it must've been nicked.'

I was a bit and she then said 'ok? bye then' - before she could put the phone down I came out of my state of shock and asked what the blinking flip she meant by that and what she intended to do about it.

She sounded amazed that I was still there bothering her and said it was nothing to do with her, I'd have to contact Amazon directly. I asked wasn't she bothered that there appeared to be a thief in their depot, she just sighed and said 'well, it's this time of year, innit?'

Lovely. So I have ranted a little at Amazon and they are redelivering them (couldn't guarantee they wouldn't use the same couriers until I pointed out in words of one syllable the idiocy of this whereupon the guy's supervisor agreed to send them registered post) so DH and I will have our pressies on the 27th. Hopefully.

In the meantime I hope the ratbags that nicked our stuff are happy with themselves - what if they'd been presents for children?

Annoyed and and hoping no-one else is in this situation.

, even given the fact that she was prob peed off working as its coming up to xmas etc etc.

What courier was it?
Cant believe Amazon would use a dodgy one, so you must just be a very unlucky exception.

LIZS · 24/12/2007 09:27

At least they used a courier for yours - mine came via Royal Mail , eventually, due a 2nd replacement one today which I now have to refuse - and undoubtedly p!ss off the delivery man since he'll have made a special journey. And they've reduced the price by 87p since I ordered , think I could reclaim it but is it worth the aggro ?

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 24/12/2007 09:29

I think you do have to get amazon to give the courier a bollocking. I had problems with a courier who was chucking parcels over the fence into next doors yard (brainless idiot somehow thought it was our shed). It was up to the sender to sort it out, and they screwed at the couriers.
Hope you get it sorted soon.

I ordered something via Amazon and it was delivered a day late despite paying for guaranteed next day delivery.

They've just refunded me the whole £8.99 express delivery charge for the inconvenience this caused so I've ended up with a real bargain.

It was citylink that failed to deliver on the right day. Was it citylink that you spoke to ?

I am currently waiting for another Amazon delivery due by 1pm today so we'll see how that turns out but cookery books are probably not as desirable and nickable as iPods

I ordered some stuff from London Wasps for my nephew's birthday. The parcel hadn't arrived some 10 days later so I contacted them to ask if they could track it. Oh no, they just send it out by normal post with no certificate of posting. Left it a couple more days and then asked them to send a replacement parcel - which they did by normal post no certificate of posting. How stupid is that?? Parcel did arrive eventually but you do have to wonder at the brains behind these companies.

Freckle · 24/12/2007 09:35

I've found Citylink to be completely cr*p too. They expected me, as the recipient, to (a) know what type of delivery the sender had paid for and (b) what that delivery meant.

They'd left a card saying they'd tried to deliver and would redeliver the following day. So I duly waited in all day - no parcel. Contacted them and was told "Oh it's a Home Delivery. They only attempt delivery once with a Home Delivery." Er, well why did they leave me a card saying they would try again today?? "Don't know. Obviously the driver made a mistake." And I'm supposed to know that how??

There was no apology, just an instruction to collect it from their depot.

I certainly wouldn't use them.

Bouncingturtlewithtinsel · 24/12/2007 09:42

Citylink recently changed offices in my area.
DH came home to find a card saying "sorry you weren't in, please ring this number if you want to collect, we will redeliver tomorrow".
Well Dh decided to collect. Rang number, constantly engaged. Went onto their website to find out they had moved and changed number - but still had old address and number on the bloody card!
Eventually managed to get through and arrange pick up, but they were a complete nightmare to find - crap directions, no proper sign, in a non-descript portacabin with a small piece of paper saying Citylink!

We had a wireless modem stolen/lost on route from amazon. It reached the couriers and didn't get to us, I kicked up a big stink at the couriers and Amazon and they delivered a new one. About two weeks later our original one arrived, I looked suprised when I was handed it and told the courier we already had one at which point he shouted do you want it or not and shoved it into my hands and didn't even ask for a signiture which I had to do when the first one arrived.

Hope yu do get yours very soon!

lovecattlearelowing · 24/12/2007 09:47

Cheers

I have no qualms about naming and shaming, they are Home Delivery Network (HDNL) and the depot is in Romford.

Fedup, I've had that problem with Citylink before (and got a refund!), however nothing has ever been stolen in transit before...

Well, they've told me they will get here for the 27th at the latest - at least it'll be a nice late Crimbo prezzie

I had a parcel from Boots delivered by Citylink which never appeared. It was signed for, but not by us! Luckily Boots refunded straight away.

weirdbird · 28/12/2007 00:36

The funniest experience I had was when I had ordered some car seat protectors a teething toy and a new sip cup from Amazon and the order never arrived through HDN people, Amazon sent out a replacement. About a week later the original box was dumped on our doorstep (while we where in, no call or knock cause I watched them!),the box was entirely opened, practically in 2 pieces all the packaging removed from the items.

It was obvious they had decided my parcel wasnt worth stealing after all!

When I phoned Amazon to let them know, they agreed with me! They do seem to just write off all this theft as a matter of course!

lovecattlearelowing · 28/12/2007 12:23

The ipod arrived this morning! By NORMAL post (NOT happy with Amazon, but hey, at least my postie's honest!)

Ive had a problem with The Book People and their couriers. As i work over lunchtime i always leave my wonderful neighbours address as a standby on the delivery part of the site as an address to try if no one home. However the courier couldnt read and the parcel was left smashed on my doorstep, most of the books were damaged (TBP hadnt sealed them in the box under shrinkwrap) I had to reorder and guess what?...............................they were left on the doorstep again, i rang the courier firm and gave them a b.......ng and they apologised and said it was a stand in courier, when i rang TBP again they said they would send me a voucher as way of compensation for cost of phone calls etc(original order was well over £50) well that was three weeks ago and im still waiting for TBP to send their voucher.
