Dd has a houseguest, fine but oh my god he’s a noisy eater who snacks a lot. AIBU to send him to eat at the end of the garden even in the snow? It’s grim, I mean so grim I can’t describe it because doing so will make me feel sick! Asarghhh!

How old is DD? Do you have to eat meals together? Could they eat separately?
Tell him he’s a noisy eater?

Marmelace · 08/01/2022 18:00

His he a rabbit?

Marmelace · 08/01/2022 18:00

Or is 😆

Gilead · 08/01/2022 18:07

He’s 37. Definitely not a rabbit. I’ve told him he’s noisy and he just says ‘I know’. He’s definitely going out in the snow if it carries on! 😆

I had visions of him chomping on a carrot for a moment 😆
Luredbyapomegranate · 08/01/2022 18:08

Well he’s her guest so tell her to tell him he’s on borrowed time.

How does she stand it?

Livpool · 08/01/2022 18:08

I think you are rude to tell him he is loud. And no, I am not a loud eater

Gilead · 08/01/2022 23:44

I’m autistic, so on occasion it just tumbles out, as it did this time. I’ve known him for more than ten years, so he wasn’t offended.
I do get your point though and I’m fairly sure (not 100%) that I wouldn’t say it to someone I barely knew.

My MIL talks with her mouth full of food and bits come flying out. Its revolting! What does your DD think about it? Does it bother her?

ponkydonkey · 08/01/2022 23:58

Oh no no no I couldn't stand that!

I have a hand signal that my kids know and it means close your mouth when you eat.

My mum chews with her mouth open and I can't even sit in the same room whilst she eats 😱😱

Gilead · 09/01/2022 01:22

Dd is aware of it, she says she’s not bothered. He’s off next week, so it’ll be quieter then!

Ear defenders block a lot, but for something more discreet, have a look at Flare Calmers and the reviews from autistic people.

IndigoToo · 09/01/2022 03:17

@BlankTimes - thank you for that suggestion. I think these will be very useful for my DC, as they can’t tolerate the ear defenders.

Monty27 · 09/01/2022 03:17

My son makes noise. He's 26
I've tried to advise him it's not sociable. He continues to do it time after time.
Therefore I don't eat with him very often. Sad

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 09/01/2022 04:01

OP, sorry. Maybe i mean noise cancelling buds??

Youngstreet · 09/01/2022 04:23

My elderly df is really noisy and chews with his mouth open.
I just have to look down at my plate until he’s finished.

salsmum · 09/01/2022 04:57

This is my absolute pet hate it really does drive me crazy! I remember we had a lovely meal the eve of my DS wedding and I was sat next to a man who'd moved to Australia and as he ate his food it was so loud and to go with the noisy eating he was mmmmmmmmm with every mouthful saying how these sausages ( posh local ones) tasted reaaaallly good HmmAngryAngry

Gilead · 09/01/2022 08:03

@BlankTimes, thank you for a brilliant suggestion, I’m investigating now! 💐
