Posting here for traffic

A few days a go while doing normal evening routine at home, the back of my right hand itched. As you do gave it a light scratch with my left hand and carried on. Within seconds all the veins in my right hand swelled up greatly to form like one big mass. It was soft and squidgy and dark blue all over. Went to bed after an hour of it looking the same.

Next 3 days I'm left with a black flat patch on the back of my hand.

Any ideas as to why this happened or has anyone had the same thing. Seems to trivial to ask Gp.

Happened to me on my finger I was actually looking at my hand so I know nothing bit me but my veins seemed to spontaneously contract it was painful then it snapped and my finger turned black and was sore I didn't have time to see the Dr and ot cleared up like a bruise it was three years ago and hasn't happened since
@Wonnle, they do itch in hot water and at night in bed.

@Thecurtainsofdestiny, I scratched for all of a second, so no real pressure. Surely the skin would be torn.

@NorthDowns, I'm not vaccinated so not covid arm.
Sounds similar to what i have and the doctor told me it's dermatitis , i get it on my forearms as well

I use a aquaous cream like E45 but a fraction of the price to moisturise the skin

This used to happen to me when I was on blood-thinners and before we got the dose right. I had veins popping on my hands and feet, creating dark bumps and bruises. Feels itchy and then can be a bit painful. I can't say it was my favourite experience.

(Turns out I need a very tiny dose of blood-thinning medication indeed.)

I had this on my ring finger. The dr said it was a burst blood vessel. I very slightly knocked the finger, then later had the itch feeling, rubbed it and then it swelled up and went black. I was worried it was a blood clot so spoke to the gp, they said burst blood vessel.

@Tootsey11

There was no spider, there isn't any redness or piercing like a sting. I was just getting up to make a cuppa from the sofa. I'm in Ni. We don't have spiders that bite here and its winter so no flies bugs etc.
If you're in the UK there were 70 spider bite injuries dealt with at a&e last year.
