To leave the house if my partner has covid

Ellerehj · 08/01/2022 13:16

So I had Covid from December 29th and my isolation period is now over and done 2 negative lateral flows.
My partner is now positive. Am I right in thinking only he now has to isolate? As I've now built up some immunity...
I've been scouring the internet for answers but I can't find anything definite. Anyone been in the same situation?
Also, my 5 yo, can he go to school as long as he is negative? It's all so confusing! TIA if anyone can clear this up

Only the positive person has to isolate

BruceAndNosh · 08/01/2022 13:19

Where do yu live?

apintofwine · 08/01/2022 13:20

If you’re double vaccinated or under 18 then you don’t need to isolate. You’re supposed to do daily lateral flows which you should probably do for your son but maybe not you since you have only just got over an infection

Bagelsandbrie · 08/01/2022 13:21

Only the positive person has to stay home.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 08/01/2022 13:21

Yes, household contacts should do daily lfts but you can leave the house. That said, our primary school asks that household contacts don’t attend school so individual schools have own policies depending on the outbreak situation. Dd1 is secondary, has had covid and went to school when dh and dd3 were positive. I can’t work but that’s because I’m in a hospital.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 08/01/2022 13:22

Oh yes, that’s only if you’re vaccinated at least twice.

Hellocatshome · 08/01/2022 13:22

Only the positive person has to isolate been that way for a long time now.

LittleBearPad · 08/01/2022 13:22

Which country are you in? The rules are different in Scotland

SickAndTiredAgain · 08/01/2022 13:23

In England?
Legally, if he got covid after the end of your isolation period and you haven’t been vaccinated, you would need to isolate again.
If he got it during your isolation period then you are fine. If you’re double vaccinated then you’re fine whenever he got it.
And yes, your 5 year old can go to school.

The rules have changed in Scotland although it depends if you've had your booster or are under 18. You can take daily LFTs for 7 days in Scotland now too
Winniemarysarah · 08/01/2022 13:40

I thought you still had to isolate if you’re over 18? I checked for a relative a few days ago and she tested positive. It says her partner has to isolate but the children don’t. She’s had to have someone else take them to school 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you are fully vaccinated with a booster in Scotland you can now daily LFTS for 7 days as a contact. It just changed for new cases from the 6th

In England you don't isolate again, there were those complicated charts about all the household members getting covid at different dates but now you carry on as normal if jabbed
dementedpixie · 08/01/2022 13:49

www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-test-and-protect/

If the new case was before 6th Jan in Scotland then they're supposed to abide by the old rules of isolating for 10 days. New close contacts from the 6th can do daily LFTs instead

Bairnsmum05 · 08/01/2022 13:51

Nobody can advise unless we know which country you live in.

Fallagain · 08/01/2022 13:51

You are also supposed to avoid non essential contact so it’s OK to go to work but not to socialise.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 08/01/2022 14:02

Legally yes you can, you're meant to daily LFT and not for social reasons. My work and DHs didn't want us in when DS was positive even though neither of us got our and were daily testing. The day we got his result (because there had been an out break at nursery rather than symptoms) I went to the supermarket late at night mask, gloves, sanitiser etc did a grocery shop then we all just isolated because even though I was testing negative it didn't seem right to me

Ellerehj · 08/01/2022 17:52

Thanks for the info everyone. I should have said I'm in England. He caught it from me in my isolation period. Thanks 😊

You don't have to isolate. My partner tested positive the day before NYE so has been at home ever since. I have been at work all the way through, just doing LFTs every day.
