AIBU or is this overkill

On Tuesday DS was with his grandparents at their home. He banged his head when he was standing on a sofa and fell off and hit his forehead on a coffee table. He had a pretty big bump there. This happened at about 10am. MIL said that he cried but soon settled and seemed fine for the rest of the day.

He was on antibiotics for a skin infection. It was 4 doses a day and he really didn't like it.

He was collected after work and brought home by DH at 6. On the journey home he said that his stomach was sore. When he came home he vomited on the floor. I called 111 because he had banged his head earlier and to check if he really needed to go to hospital.

Spoke to 2 handlers and a doctor. I was told that as he appeared to be fine in himself that he didn't need to go to hospital. Doctor said that the vomiting could possibly have been from the antibiotics. The second handler told me that they would make a referral to the health visitors. I agreed because why not.

I got a call today from the children's services. They received a referral from 111 because of "the delay in seeking treatment." I told them that I called as soon as he vomited and that there wasn't a delay. I don't know what the next steps are but surely it was overkill to include the children's services for this? Surely if every child was brought to the hospital after a head bang they would be inundated with this. The 111 handler didn't tell me to go to hospital so if MIL had called when it happened surely the advice would have been the same.

It's not overkill, services do have to be careful of this kind of thing. However, a doctor should have checked him out as a precaution.

How old is your DS and are they aware your DS was not in your care at the time?

It's overkill.

You phoned as soon as he was sick

Calling when he had had a bump (and got an egg) they'd have just told you to keep an eye on him and to check he can be roused if he falls asleep etc.

Even when he was sick they didn't want to see him, so 'delay in reporting' is a ridiculous claim and most HV's are a complete waste of space anyway, let alone in relation to child protection.

Same old lack of communication within services
FFS you rang when you became concerned having assessed him all day it's a waste of services.
Hope DS is ok OP

DS is 3.

The thing is that I'm a social worker, I work in an assessment team in the children's services so I just feel a bit stupid that it didn't occur to me that CS would be informed or that I would get a call from them. I'm assuming that it won't meet the threshold for assessment but maybe I'm being stupid again!

I explained the same story to 4 people now.
