To think Friday afternoons are weird?

Does anyone else feel this?

I sometimes have almost a nostalgic feel about them. I always had that *Friday feeling from being young and going out. Then as I got a little older, it signalled the end of the working week and at least a few glasses of wine and a takeaway.
Now as a Sahm to a toddler..it just feels quiet and..a bit weird….No Friday feeling buzz!

SAHM was use a hamster wheel to me - no differentiation between days.

I completely understand what you mean!! My Friday afternoons used to consist of encouraging everyone at work to go for beer, we loved our Friday drinks!
Now I get excited about putting the kids to bed so I can watch whatever latest show we're into.

It's really not the same especially in the summer, quite happy hibernating at the moment though!

Youngatheart00 · 07/01/2022 14:55

I miss Friday afternoons pre covid.

Now we are WFH there’s no Friday feeling whatsoever

Chipsahoy · 07/01/2022 14:55

Could you change up you week? I don’t plan anything on Fridays with my toddler. We wear cosy clothes and stay home. Cleaning. Watch tv. Read books. Then after we get the older dc, they have an early dinner. Just sort of separates it from the other days a bit.

Bathbubbleseverywhere · 07/01/2022 16:25

Def need to change it up a bit, just all seems a bit dull now 🙈I mean, weekends with toddlers aren’t really weekends/a break are they 😅

When my DC were little I still always had that Friday feeling, a couple of friends and I would take it in turns to host lunch on Friday afternoon after toddler group and then DS would go for a later nap (I was lucky that he still went to bed at normal bedtime otherwise I might not have found it so relaxing).

Now my DC are in school I keep my Friday afternoons for something enjoy doing - baking something for the weekend. It relaxes me into the weekend.

The thing I love after getting home from school on a Friday is closing the door behind us and shutting out the week that’s just passed, even though we have quite busy weekend there is something about relaxing on a Friday evening and a change of pace for the weekend.

Friday afternoon as a SAHM for me is delightful as it’s the time, post covid, DH works from home and I can slowly farm over the responsibilities snd cruise into the weekend. He is currently doing the bathtime whilst I sit on my arse on MN - more magical than getting drunk with friends as a single woman!

Pinkywoo · 07/01/2022 18:07

Nope, I've always worked in retail or hospitality, Saturday is the busiest day of the week!

bellalou1234 · 07/01/2022 18:10

I have a feeling of doom on a Sunday even if I'm off on a monday

Doingtheboxerbeat · 07/01/2022 18:23

If i was given a choice to work a 4 day week, I would always work a Friday and have a Monday off. Even if my plans were to curl into the foetal position for the weekend, the atmosphere is so much more fun than a Monday morning.

TheCanyon · 07/01/2022 18:25

Our county switched to half day fridays when eldest dc was just starting school, Fridays never been The same again Grin

Me too. Sunday is the worst day of the week for me!

Alayalaya · 07/01/2022 18:29

Once you’re a parent there’s no ‘Friday feeling’ any more because you still have to get up early and work on weekends doing childcare.

miltonj · 07/01/2022 18:32

I'm a sahm mum to a toddler too. I still get a Friday feeling because my husband doesn't work weekends so it means a 2 lie ins in a row, maybe a couple of mid day naps if I'm lucky too! And just general help looking after our daughter.

Bathbubbleseverywhere · 07/01/2022 20:49

@miltonj God, lucky you!

You need to make Saturday morning your time, swimming, yoga, mountain biking whatever floats your boat.

Then Friday night date night at home, nice food wine, no telly etc.

Then he looks after toddler on Saturday morning whilst you do your thing.

mrsfollowill · 07/01/2022 21:25

I love a Friday afternoon - even when I worked in an office with other people it was count down to the weekend and everyone got slightly giddy. Have WFH since March 2020 but all still message each other with Wine Gin Glitterball Grin as 5pm gets closer. Even when I was part time and didn't work Fridays always had a good vibe all day as DH would finish at 4pm and we could chill!

HairyScaryMonster · 07/01/2022 23:50

I work mon-thur and love my Fridays off. Youngest now at school so even better!

mrsfollowill · 08/01/2022 00:29

To be fair we did have a period of time where DS was very little and we were much restrained! Getting up and feeding in the night is bloody hard work- hats off to anyone doing this but the time goes so quickly- my 'baby' is 20 soon.. sobs! he is having a rum & coke with us at the mo Grin
