Refund AIBU

So I made a purchase before Christmas from a large online retailer. When I received it, I knew straight away it wasn’t right, so I returned it the same day with a view to getting a refund.

I knew it could take a week, plus Christmas so I left it until today to chase the refund. They claim they refunded me, and yet it definitely hadn’t reached my bank.

Just found out that they had refunded me in the form of a ‘gift card’. I’m both confused and annoyed. I never paid them with a gift card, and could totally understand that if I’d originally paid using a gift voucher, but I didn’t and this is a massive company that does very well for itself.

I asked for it to be transferred back into my bank, and they had said it’s not possible and that it can be used against my next purchase. Tbh I’m fuming as I wasn’t aware they could just use your refund as a sort of voucher retainer system. AIBU?

YABU. Legally, unless a product is not fit for purpose or is damaged etc, you have no right to a return/refund. It’s a goodwill gesture to allow a return.

I didn’t click to accept the option BTW that is an automated option that you have to opt out of. Forms can be constructed where you have to check a box option or you can’t move on. Clearly this has been set up for you to move on without having to click. It’s definitely sneaky and most people probably don’t care, but I just happen to think they set this up in their favour
It’s not sneaky! You just didn’t read what you were clicking. Take some responsibility and stop blanking everyone else for your error.

Yes you are if it’s an online purchase, unless it can’t be returned for hygiene reasons or it’s been personalised.

You know that online orders have different rules don't you?

It is like banging my head against a brick wall.

You are totally wrong. Read the thread. It has been explained.

I really wish people would atop giving out completely incorrect advise whilst adding the word legally. This has been corrected over and over on this thread. Why are you coming in and repeating it?

I've been really impressed with Amazon returns TBH - I had to have a refund to my account because my bank decided to cancel my debit card on christmas eve, that I am still fuming about.

But - two copies of the same cookery book in greek instead of English - entirely my fault, it was in the description, and a kettle with a small defect; two exchanges, one refund.
I also got texts and emails telling me the refund had been made to my amazon account, so don't understand the confusion.

Also I returned one item to the nearby Amazon Fresh store - I received text and email confirmations before I'd left the store.

& the Greek cookery book gave my friend a good laugh on Christmas morning!

If you didn't accept the option then you can't move past that page. You either have to click to confirm you are happy with credit or select the box below that says cash.
