AIBU to think I should get a courtesy car

I was involved in an accident over the holiday period . My car was badly damaged at front end and after my description of the damage to the insurer’s call handler,I was told I won’t get a courtesy car as the car will likely be written off.
I got a brief email to that effect.

My insurance cover does include a courtesy car but I’ve found out it’s only if the car is going to be repaired.
The insurer has taken the car away and told me it will be 10-14 days before the assessor can see it.

I’m left without a car for getting to work while the insurer decides what to do.

So AIBU to think I should get the courtesy car meantime?

There was nobody else involved in the accident except a falling tree.

I always take the 'Guaranteed hire car' option when buying insurance to cover this sort of stuff

Whilst I agree that in principle this correct I would push for a car for the time it takes to decide whether to repair as this is not normally that long.

If not do you have roadside repair cover? This may offer a hire car for a short period. Whilst this isn't a normal circumstance they would be involved in it may let you access car hire on their contract which is much cheaper than normal rates.

Op was this a non fault accident?

In which case can you ask the third party insurer to arrange a courtesy vehicle for you?

moochies · 06/01/2022 13:19

Oh sorry, ignore that, I didn't see the end of your post.

That's annoying for you.

I guess pragmatically if you need a car, you may be able to agree with your insurer to rent one while yours is being fixed and that they pay if it's fixable, you pay if it isn't....

The other option might be to buy the cheapest pile of crap car you can find on the proviso that you'll probably sell it for the same amount in a month or two's time when you either get your car back or replace it.

@FixTheBone
I hired a car because for me no car = no work.
I’ve also bought an old banger with genuine low mileage, a year mot and 6 months warranty 😁
I might just run it into the ground and keep the payout. Still not heard from the insurance company 🙄
