Honestly

I’m selling stuff because, well the pennies go into the child’s bank account/could use the money.

Item worth about £50 (£70+ on eBay)

First response

‘Could you not just donate it to xxx instead?’

Well I could but I don’t want to. Feck off and give your own stuff away.

Also note, the responder is prolific on the freebie sites, and also sells/resells items.

Proper pissed on my cornflakes this morning.

Yes: YABU - the woman is righteous and charitable and you’re just a miseryguts
No: YANBU - she’s a dick

Just ignore. Don't engage. When someone comes along to make an offer, you can have a grown up conversation with them.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 05/01/2022 08:48

"Why don't you go fuck yourself?"

I confess that this sort of thing makes me a trifle grumpy.

Reply and say "great idea, you could donate if after you've bought it"

Marketplace is depressing for stuff like this. Also get a lot of will you take 1/3 of the price and also deliver. I gave up trying to sell on there. I actually listed 3 boxes of mixed items, car boot type stuff with a general description eg pans, plates, pictures, cups etc for free once and someone wanted individual pictures and descriptions of everything. I politely declined and they decided to leave it then Hmm.

Brilliant response.

Please use this one OP!

Ha, that's cheeky.

ThinWomansBrain · 05/01/2022 09:02

ignore - or reply with screenshots of stuff she is selling and ask why she didn't donate those.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/01/2022 09:51

Some people really do have far too much time on their hands.

See also the people who take the trouble to inform you that 'you'll never get that for it' - even when the price is fair for the item's second-hand condition. Not just the liars people who want to buy it from you at an artificially much lower price: people who have no interest in the item but just really think you should know their 'expert' valuation.

Just out of interest, does the person who berated you for not 'just' donating it to X work for X? Is X a charity shop where, possibly, not all of the best donated items make it on to the shelves?

SleepingStandingUp · 05/01/2022 09:52

I'd just reply
"you're welcome to do so once you've brought it, when can you collect?"

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 05/01/2022 09:53

‘Could you not just donate it to xxx instead?’

I don't know if I'd actually do it, but the child in me would be sorely tempted to instantly reply to that with "Could you not just off?"

autismandgin · 05/01/2022 09:55

Reply with “why don’t you donate your time? You obviously have plenty of time to be lurking on FB marketplace all day”
