To find it impossible to wake up? HELP!

Right, I'm a teacher which means I have to leave by about 07:30. For the last year I've been getting up (no exaggeration) about 8 minutes before I have to leave. My mornings are so rushed and it means I go into work feeling like a mess.

I set alarms for 06:30 but then always end up snoozing them or setting later ones.

Ive tried the trick of leaving your phone on the other side of the room - I simply get it, snooze the alarm and get back into bed.

Ive tried everything, I physically don't get up until I'm cutting it so fine that I may be late to lesson 1. IT is awful!

I would love an alarm clock that would gradually wake me up and perhaps gently play the radio or something, so I give myself 45 minutes to have breakfast, a shower etc. Any recommendations?

What worked for me previously:

  1. A "cockerel" alarm clock on the other side of the room. No snooze facility.
  1. A deal with BT for cheap daily alarm calls.

What works now:

  1. Bedside clock radio coming on 10 mins earlier than needed so I kid myself I've had a lie-in.
  1. Then phone alarm - on landing - SET WITH NO SNOOZE!!!!! My phone alarm has this option. I expect everyone's does.

Followed swiftly by:

  1. Gravity (having stood up) and middle aged bladder Angry. Failsafe.

What might work (courtesy of Chris Tarrant in the late 80s):

  1. £50 note in grill/oven/toaster with timer set for 6.30am. It was a £20 note but inflation etc.
  1. Vacuum cleaner plugged in and switched on with timer plug set for 6.30am.
Preferably an old 1960s cylinder model .

Good luck Smile

Some people are being really rude when OP has written a thread for help and advice.

OP Google sleep cycles - it’s all about working out the best time to go to bed for the time you want to get up. Your alarm might be going off right at the worst time for your sleep cycle.

Is it the quality of sleep making you not feel rested? You could try sleep sprays, taking melatonin, epsom salt baths before bed, changing your mattress etc

If your getting plenty of sleep but still waking up exhausted it might be your lacking iron or vit D or have a thyroid issue, you can have blood tests to check.

Do you have a hormonal imbalance? Maybe look into health reasons as to why you’re struggling.

There are daylight lights ( sometimes billed as SAD lights) that have a time and gradually light up. Supposed to imitate the sun rising and wakens your brain up. Might be worth a try.
