Ear/Jaw pain!

Okay not an aibu but posting here for traffic as I'm getting desperate.
Wondering if anyone has had the same and got to the bottom of it?
I've had what I thought was earache for the past 3 weeks. It's slowly developed into more of a jaw pain and also radiates down my neck. I spoke to the doctor a couple of weeks ago who assumed it was an inner ear infection and that I just had to let it run its course, carry on with pain killers etc
Finally seen a doctor 3 days ago who said my ear looked fine, no sign of infection and no other sign of where the pain could be coming from. Suggested I see my dentist to check it wasn't my teeth causing it.
Seen my dentist today who took X-rays etc but said everything seems to be fine so obviously limited on what they could suggest to help.
Ibuprofen and cocodamol are now barely helping the ache now.
What the heck do I do now!? Go back to the doctor? Something must be causing it surely?
I just feel like I'm being passed from pillar to post while the pain is getting worse every day.

I'd also suggest looking up trigeminal neuralgia. And if you think it sounds familiar, see your h
GP as soon as you can as they can prescribe anti convulsant meds.
Mine was in my ear (like needles being poked in), gums, jaw, teeth, cheek, tongue and lips.

I thought I would add my experience of TMJ dysfunction. My dentist overstretched my mouth for a prolonged period of time during a procedure. That night and for a couple more after I would be woken by the pain as the ibuprofen wore off. The pain in the soft tissue of my cheek and into the back of my jaw joint was driving me insane. My preliminary searches on the internet persuaded me that I needed to see a max- fax specialist (not easily done...) so I was feeling a bit desperate as the pain came back with the same intensity when the ibuprofen wore off.

I don't live in the uk and have limited local language so every phonecall and contact with professionals can be tricky - I felt very nervous about contacting my dentist, which would have been my first point of call in the uk. I would expect them to know about tmj issues.

Luckily I found a website that detailed a few rehab exercises and stretches. I did these and found relief almost immediately- the pain faded to an ache that disappeared over the course of a week.

Fingers crossed for you OP and that you find and resolve the source of the problem speedily!

Thankyou for your replies they've all been really helpful! I'm going to get back onto my gp in the morning and go from there I think.

Hi OP, I would go back to the GP and if necessary to A&E if the jaw pain continues. This happened to a friend of mine and unfortunately it turned out to be a serious (though rare) issue.

I don’t want to alarm you, it is almost certainly nothing - my friend’s condition was extremely rare. However it would be better to have it checked, with a biopsy if necessary. Good luck

I have had exactly this a few times over the last 6 months or so. Dr has not got the bottom of it but recommended an ear spray called Ear Calm which you can buy over the counter. After severe pain for days this eased things within a few hours, and has helped every time it has happened since. Good luck.

Hi @StartleBright would you mind private messaging me a link to the exercises please? I have tmjd too (over 18months now) so willing to try anything to help!
