I have a 24 hour ban now on Facebook, already permanently banned on Twitter.

the reasons, I told someone he was a making an arse of himself, (apparently thats bullying) said arse was calling vegans thick and told me to "eat poo until I can taste it" and go F myself". but apparently I am the one bullying.

and 10 months earlier (but apparently this is counted now towards the ban) I used hate speech in a reply on a political thread saying that johnson said he would rip up the human rights act and create a British bill of rights and if the British people are stupid if they think it would be in their favour, decades of tory governments should have given the proles a clue.

btw I am british and I do think we are stupid, thats not hate speech its a fact, we have consistently voted to inflict misery on ourselves for decades, as if we never want anything to get better we never vote for the parties that offer hope, optimism, change.

anyway I have come to the conclusion social media isnt social at all, its just an advertisement platform they dont want any input more then a few silly emojis. I miss the internet how it used to be full of forums, where people could talk.

where did all the forums go? do you think we should bring back more forums separate to social media

Aren't you on a forum right now...?

mum11970 · 04/01/2022 10:36

You deserve a ban, solely based on your lack of capital letters. Smile

FOJN · 04/01/2022 10:37

the warnings and bans only started a few months ago when I started following feminist pages.

same applies to twitter 7 years on it, then getting pulled up every five mins when I started talking about womens rights and reporting mens threats of violence towards other women.

This has been going on for several years now, in fact I would say things have eased up a bit in the last 12 - 18 months.

Joanna Cherry questioned someone from Twitter (I think), in a HOC's, committee about how their moderation policy allowed violent misogyny to stand but posts in favour of women's rights often resulted in bans and suspensions even when examination of the posts wouldn't have suggested they broke community guidelines.

All of the SM giants have been questioned, multiple times, by the Senate Judiciary Committee about how their moderation policy manipulates political discourse. It's was very instructive watching them squirm but ultimately face no sanctions. I'm surprised so few people understand how powerful the tech oligarchs are.

I'm surprised you were banned for criticising the Conservatives, advocating for women makes you the wrong kind of leftie!

VelvetChairGirl · 04/01/2022 10:38

"and did you appeal?

I had a post selling eggs removed!? completely bonkers"

yes I hear nothing. I am getting piled on for saying I stand with JK I'm sure.

I got banned for posting a picture of my son dancing in his pants

To be fair you really shouldn't put pictures of half dressed children on the internet, if parents can't see that then I'm glad social media platforms step in.

Face ache is shut fir moderating. They ignore reports or don't act on blatant rule breaking & ban for the most ridiculous stuff. Its worth challenging though as then you get an actual person looking at it & they usually lift the ban.

I was banned for a week for a photo of my cat in front of butterflies in a frame. I got a ban for promoting drugsConfused

Friend was bantering with his good mate to try & cheer him up as he's having a shit time. He got a ban for calling him a "soft prick" I just

Friend got a months ban for standing up to a racist prick who was racially abusing her

My nw probably ex good friend posts antivaxx shite after shite & is dangerously ill informed & has no interest in educating herself to facts .., reporting her post has no friggin effect at all as she is writing her own antivaxx crap Hmm

It's shit unfortunately

Fidgetty · 04/01/2022 11:16

I could tell you some pretty disturbing stories why not! How many people are on your friends list? Most have a couple hundred at least. Believe me when I say even your "friends" could use those images in ways you'd never imagine.

RockinHorseShit · 04/01/2022 11:18

Not true, I have several friends who actively troll right wing meathead groups & they all have 2 or 3 accounts in prep for any bans

They have never responded to any challenge ever, I never hear a reply back to any of my disagreements with their decisions.

It's a bit insulting to say that the British people are thick, when you only mean a small portion of them. Non British people get to vote as well, many from countries without a human rights act. You'd need to be more ambiguous. There's ways of saying everything without directly insulting one group. Think about what you want to say and reword it so no group that comes under the Equality Act is targeted.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 04/01/2022 11:35

I don't miss Facebook. I sacked it off 2 years+ ago and haven't missed it. It isn't a force for good IMHO - Martin Lewis had to threaten them with court actin before they could be bothered to stop showing scam adverts on there featuring his face and claiming he was backing all sorts of bogus shit schemes.
Note that Facebook didn't respond to him asking them or to the millions of reports of the scam Ads, only to legal action backed by a very well off person.
Facebook doesn't care - about you, about UK law, about anything except Facebook.

@VelvetChairGirl

Shows your wrong then because I got a warning for using the word Tardis, before and got a spam warning for saying "we need a shop in the uk".

just because you haven't gotten in trouble yet doesnt mean your immune, funny how I have been on Facebook for over 10 years but the warnings and bans only started a few months ago when I started following feminist pages.

same applies to twitter 7 years on it, then getting pulled up every five mins when I started talking about womens rights and reporting mens threats of violence towards other women.

I cant seem to find forums when I google for them.

I got banned twice for using the word faggot. One was on a food group where I was posting a recipe for homemade faggots. Another was when someone was talking about the lyrics to the pogues song and how they’ve changed, someone was unaware of the change and asked how they were different and I quoted the two sets of lyrics. I also got a ban for referring to my gay friend as gay.

I am a member of a few very innocuous hobby groups (same hobby), and the admins of one of the groups are having to constantly request people to moderate their content – except that no-one understands what the bad content is when the admins post the “offending” content. The same content is posted in the other groups, with no issues at all.

It is almost as if FB have targeted this particular group, and there appears to be no right of appeal at all, so I can well believe that a single person can be targeted too. Perhaps if you have posted anything that someone has taken issue with, OP, and they reported it, and perhaps more than once – and then you are on their radar.

I have also reported some very racist comments/shared memes made by (now ex) friends, and FB said they were acceptable. I don’t bother any more.

RockinHorseShit · 04/01/2022 12:57

I've not had a daft ban in a while, I seem to have fallen off their radar, TF. But I'm seeing other friends complain of this & I'm finding reported posts are ignored completely or takes weeks & weeks to tell you rules haven't been broken, when they definitely have.

It's definitely extra shit lately

Theunamedcat · 04/01/2022 13:04

My entire DIY group got a ban we were discussing nailing things to walls as you do this got the group shut down so we tried again using # in place of letters

Even my animal crossing group uses w##ds instead of weeds its literally part of the game 😂

I had a think about it, and I think it is this, yesterday I liked lots of comments supporting JK on a public post, I didnt say anything myself, and I posted a few laughing emojis at the JK is witch burn her types.

I think looking at what gets reported and the majority is classed as spam. these people look at my profile which is locked to friends only but they can see my public posts so they scroll down them reporting them for anything they can think of to get me screwed over.

because if you look at the emoji things it does list names of who left them. I really dont think facebook had a post from 10 months ago on hold and just happened to act on it this morning, someone went thru my posts all the public ones they could see on the first few pages of my account and reported them. thats probably what happened last time too, the shop and tardis ones were close together too

I once got a ban for supposedly posting "adult nudity"... it was a picture of a piece of brown furniture Hmm

The algorithms are utterly ridiculous. I've tried reporting blatent racism on news article comments, but that's fine. The league of comments along the lines of "(insert nationality) go home" is apparently not foul of their racism policy, but I've known people be pulled up by obviously daft humourous comments that were not offensive with a human understanding of humour and nuance.

Ridiculous, inconsistent censorship and the constant Covid/ climate change pop-ups make it a less pleasant platform to use and are ultimately counter-productive as they make it less attractive and will cut their advertising revenues.
