Family friendly careers help!

I know this will have been done to death but I feel really stuck and need some inspiration on family friendly jobs.

Currently a SAHM and although I love being at home for DC's it was never intentional and I really want to get back work but can't figure how.
DC's are now 5&3, 3yo in school nursery 5 mornings per week while 5yo is in school. I'm happy to use time between youngest to start school studying for something new... Just don't know what.

I have no real career or qualifications, I can't work shifts anymore as my husband who will be main earner works shifts, only finds out at the weekend what his coming week will look like. For him to have somewhat more static shifts it would involve a demotion and huge cut in pay that I wouldn't out earn..plus he loves his job and is good at it so I don't want that anymore than him. We don't have regular help with childcare from other family so can't rely on anyone else for evenings/weekends.

School holidays will be a head scratcher...but will work on that later.

My backstory... If at all relevant:
I started a call centre job in my early 20's just for the summer will I figured out what to do next.... I was made redundant after 10years from the same job, while pregnant.

Pregnancy was planned as although my job was shift work I had been there so long I was able to go part time with suitable shifts on return from mat leave (as many of my colleagues who'd worked there over a certain length did)... It was the redundancy that wasn't planned for.

I've tried to find similar customer service work since but i can't offer flexiblity to work rota shifts so don't get anywhere.

We live in a rented home so can't be a child minder.
Retail jobs as I've seen in my searches is often mentioned ive been looking since before covid and nothing not one on my area can either be flexible to me or have just days.
It seems to get good shifts i need to be there so long and have a new need to flexible working not start a job on only days.

I've lost alot of my identity, with DH working alot of evenings and every weekend I rarely get out, so don't have any hobbies or skills etc

I would like a career but right now I just want a purpose outside of the house and to earn some extra money so we can eventually by a house.

What are you good at, would you say? Are you very caring, or were you good at maths or anything at school? How technical are you? I think in your position I'd look to see what's on offer at the local college.

I've not heard that childminders can't live in rented houses. When did that rule come in?

I know everyone wants the term time TA jobs, but is it worth looking for something like that? Or could you be a taxi escort - although if you don't have childcare that might not work.

Cleaner here!! Self employed.. Clean B&Bs, air B&B boats and houses... For a few Dr's and some retired people.. Work easily around dc.. Sometimes bookings mean the odd evening if a short notice booking or the odd weekend for a couple of hours. Can take ds 7 if necessary..

@Funnylittlefloozie it's not a generic rule but I'm not allowed to run any business from home. It's my tenancy that prevents it.

Yeh i had considered a TA but everyone and their dogs wants those jobs. My uncle a is taxi driver and he told me to get my escort license but it's the childcare and non security of trying to pay for childcare if i don't get work.

I have thought about cleaning... Might come back to it and do more research.

Someone is going to jump on here any minute and try and plug an MLM scheme to you selling make up, or essential oils or some other thing.

Whatever you so, don't get involved with an MLM. They target people in your very situation. Anyone starts 'Hey Hun, I might have an opportunity you'd be interested in' tell them 'get lost!'.

Anyway, mini rant over. Nothing else to add other then Good Luck!!!

I work for a big 4 accountancy/professional services firm (am not an accountant). Very family friendly. I work from home 3 days a week, can leave early to do school pick up and finish later, have private healthcare, can access paid for emergency childcare when necessary.

Have you thought about going for an entry level role somewhere like that, or an admin role? I worked with someone who was a PA and moved sideways into our commercial contracts arm and is working her way up. I think we also offer adult apprenticeships and funded degree programmes.

It depends what you're interested in really. I enjoy my job - primarily project managing large government contracts - but I know some people would rather chew their own arm off than drive a desk.
