To ask you all to hold my hand, and make me phone the dentist tomorrow? 🤪

I'm a grown up. Seriously I am. But I'm very frightened of the dentist.

Over the last few months everything has gone wrong - one lost filling, chipped front tooth; and two cracked back teeth from biting what I thought was a sugar cake decoration but was rock hard.

Yes, things hurt

Yes, I'm worried about it

Yes, I've been paid so I can pay the bill

But

I'M AFRAID OF THE DENTIST

They should be open again tomorrow.

Please could MN stand and shout at me to stop being a child and GTF on with it?

🤪

First of all, do you know whether you are still on the dentist's list? There's another thread where people have found they have been removed as it's more than two years since they last went.

SocialConnection · 03/01/2022 13:00

Oh yes, good thought - I did a checkup about four months ago so should be fine there.

Those problems should have been picked up at your previous appointment. I hope you manage to get seen this week.

AllYouCanEatBrestaurant · 03/01/2022 13:31

Call them, get it sorted and be grateful you have access to a dentist. I've been trying for years now and still can't get registered anywhere it's utterly infuriating.

VeronicaBeccabunga · 03/01/2022 13:43

I don't think anyone enjoys the dentist, I always plan a little treat/reward for myself for getting it over and done with and mostly find the anticipation and waiting the worst bit.

Wishing you luck! You can do this!

SocialConnection · 03/01/2022 13:49

I am pathetic over this, and appreciate even getting a dentist is difficult for some. I'll remember that. I have put alarm with a 'call dentist' message on my phone for tomorrow.

I was in the same position as you, I found a really understanding dentist, honestly I had better care from my dentist than when I gave birth 🤣. She was just lovely put me at ease reminded me to relax when my body was clearly saying how stressed I was

Comtesse · 03/01/2022 15:51

C’mon you are worth looking after - seeing the dentist is medical care, look after yourself!

Sparklesocks · 03/01/2022 15:52

You can do it. Try and do it first thing if you can to get it out the way and then you’re not anxious about doing it all day.

LoisSanger · 03/01/2022 15:53

I am very similar to you - just need to call them but scared of it

FunkyPhantom · 03/01/2022 16:00

I know how you feel ☹️

I had to bite the bullet ( so to speak ) a couple of years ago and arrange to see a dentist after a very long time.

I had two very bad experiences in the past and was petrified, but had to finally grow a pair and make an appointment.

I googled for dentists who cater for nervous patients and found one locally. From the moment I walked in, they were absolutely brilliant. The dentist completely understood after talking for a while about what I'd experienced before so explained everything he was going to do ....and if I felt uncomfortable or in too much pain, to let him know. So, after a few visits, all my problems were sorted and now just pop back for check-ups.......

Hopefully you'll find something simillar, so have a look about and see if you can get an appointment 😁👍

Good luck, I'll be holding your hand 😁👍

Ask your dentist to put a dab of anasthetic on a cotton ball before they inject you, to numb your gum, it really does make injections easier.
I've just had teeth out under sedation because its the only way I can stand to have it done so I'm not judging you.

Mumofone2021 · 03/01/2022 16:09

I’m absolutely with you here. I had an ‘incident’ with a quality street toffee penny the other day and now need to call the dentist.

Local anaesthetic doesn’t really work on me so I’ve had a few horrific experiences. One of my best friends is a dentist but lives the other end of the uk, I genuinely drive a day to see him if I need anything major doing as he’s just amazing.
Lockdown 2020 I had a ruptured tooth. Dentists were shut, hospital gave me codeine which didn’t touch the pain. Thank god I had a contact who saw me as an emergency. If I had left it another day or so I’d have been in real trouble due to the infection.

Anyway, yes I get it. It’s awful, but nothing is as awful as uncontrollable toothache. Call them and get it seen to. It’ll be a horrible day or so but at least after you’ll be ok. Codeine and ibuprofen is your friend in the meantime

You'll feel SO much better after getting to the dentist

I spent months worrying and stressing out about my teeth, leading to things being worse than they should have been

But I didn't even care, I was just relieved to be having it sorted out!

Mumofone2021 · 03/01/2022 16:10

Just to add, my friend the amazing dentist managed to numb me with one injection as my nerve was on the other side of my jaw to normal. He spotted it on the X-ray but I’ve always had to point it out to other dentists.

LuckyAmy1986 · 03/01/2022 16:25

The longer you leave it, the worse it will get, and the inevitable work you will need doing will only be more! Do it NOW

SocialConnection · 08/01/2022 13:21

Thankyou everyone!! I have secured an appointment for the first thing on the 26th - feeling actually much better knowing it's all set.
