So glad it's not just my kids who insist on being awake between 4.30 and 5.30.

GloriaSmud · 03/01/2022 07:14

bushtailadventures - you have that too?
Most mornings, my brain decides that anytime between 3.30am and 5am is the time to start the day but this morning, it was 4am and that was after I went to sleep around midnight!

It's going to be a looong day!

SleepingStandingUp · 03/01/2022 07:15

My two year old thinks 3 am is morning so sorry 5 am is practically lunch time

Doris86 · 03/01/2022 07:15

5am? That’s a lie in. When my son was 2, he used to sometimes wake up at 2am and think it was time to get up.

Deathraystare · 03/01/2022 07:19

No babies here but my alarm went off at 4.30 as I needed to be up and in the shower before work. I allow plenty of time. I am not annoyed at being up 'too early' as I am just glad everything is back to normal after a dose of Covid!!!!

Deathraystare · 03/01/2022 07:20

Plus even on non work days I am normally stumbling out to the loo at that time!!!

abeanbaked · 03/01/2022 07:20

@PinniGig

5am is my putting on wellies, coat, hat and heading off out with dog poo bags and a massive torch. My brain is like a teasmade, I swear if I was put under general anaesthesia in the middle of the night, I'd still sit bolt upright on the table smack bang on 4.30am.
Do you have a dog or do you just go poo picking really early?
Ohmych · 03/01/2022 07:22

My Dd used to wake at 5am every morning until she started school. Now my body clock is fucked working different shifts every day. I am normally awake at 5am whether I have to go to work at that time or not. Sometimes I can get back to sleep but mostly not.

marchingtotheend2021 · 03/01/2022 07:25

@Draineddraineddrained

You know what's worse? Baby woke up at 4 to feed - she's now gone back to sleep and I can't!!!
I feel your pain haha have the same problem!
Joystir59 · 03/01/2022 07:30

Tell my body too. I'm always waking myself up super early thing wow! It's morning! Only to learn that it's 5am and pitch dark outside..

Dentistlakes · 03/01/2022 07:33

I remember the early wake up days! Up at 4am and then they’re asleep again at 8 and you have to get on with your day. Then it becomes habit for you just as they start to sleep in until midday!

5am is now my normal waking time and I go for a run to pass the time. It’s maddening.

Etherealhedgehog · 03/01/2022 07:51

Question for posters with older babies/toddlers - do they make it happily through to lunch/naptime on their early wake up time or do you see the effects? DD is 15 months and is basically a catatonic, grumpy wreck by about 8.30, but if we let her nap then, she won't sleep in the afternoon and then she's a catatonic grumpy wreck for the whole second half of the day. So we push through to a lunchtime nap, which currently means we can't do much or expect to have any nice times from about 8am onwards, ie. when businesses are open/friends are out and about etc. And of course, by the time she wakes up from her nap it's nearly dark and the day is practically over. I feel like I could deal with the early mornings if she was on form for the rest of the day, but this is just miserable. Did yours thrive with their early bird habits or will it be like this for years?

Ozgirl75 · 03/01/2022 07:57

I remember these days so well, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Mine were early risers but by age 3/4 they could understand that they had to stay in their room and quietly play until 7.00 otherwise we would be grumpy with them!
Now (9 and 11) they’re up at 6.30 for school and then sleep in at the weekend, positively civilised!

Ozgirl75 · 03/01/2022 08:00

@Etherealhedgehog what if you went out at 8.30/9 and she had her nap in the car or pram on the way to an activity, then another short nap around 1/2 on your way back? I think that’s what I used to do, especially with the second one who just got schlepped around to everything.

Etherealhedgehog · 03/01/2022 08:05

@Ozgirl75 the problem is that, even in car or pram she won't take that second nap. At least not with eg. a 4 hour gap. I guess if we left it longer, maybe 6 hours, she would sleep, but that doesn't really fit in the day unless we want to give her a really late bedtime (she already goes to bed at 8, couldn't face any later given how early in the day we have to start enjoying the pleasure of her company!) I'm just desperately hoping that she will (relatively soon) reach an age where she can tolerate the 8 hour wake window that her current schedule requires. Or start waking up later...

muddyford · 03/01/2022 08:05

Tell my bowels!

HarlanPepper · 03/01/2022 08:10

5am! that's a long lie! etc.

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 03/01/2022 08:12

My 7 year old thinks 5am is morning and always has done!

Ozgirl75 · 03/01/2022 08:12

It’s a really tough time @Etherealhedgehog trying to balance the naps and awake times with the horribly early start.
What if you went out at 8 and she slept then for maybe an hour and a half, then you kept her awake until day 1 but with a very full and tiring morning and then let her sleep for an hour or less in the afternoon so she can still go to sleep at 7.30/8 in the evening.
I would always try to get mine out to the park, soft play, swimming (mine were exhausted after time in the pool), anything really physically tiring in the morning so they needed the nap.
I’m sure you know all this but I promise it does get better at some point.

Ozgirl75 · 03/01/2022 08:13

Say 1 not day 1

georgarina · 03/01/2022 08:19

Please cc my 5-month-old

soughsigh · 03/01/2022 08:21

Yep, 5am start here too for our 3yo. I wouldn't mind so much if he had got enough sleep to be in a good mood but he's always tired and grumpy. Won't go to bed earlier though and won't nap. He has never been a sleeper

BeyondMyWits · 03/01/2022 08:27

Just wait for the menopause.... 2am
3am, 5am... who knows... often at the weekend, I'm getting up just as 21yr old is getting in!!!! (I used to live her life... not fair...)

ExcuseeeeMe · 03/01/2022 09:05

I’m sorry it’s been morning time in my house for the last 6 years.

BuffyFanForever · 03/01/2022 09:07

My 11 month olds think 3.45am is morning and it’s time to be up and about 😳
