The WHO guidance does not recommend them for 5 and under, except for visiting an ill relative or similar. Only 12 and over should be treated exactly the same as adults in regards to masks.

Thank you. That's good to know. I didn't think it was a lovely thing to do. Just trying to protect my child anyway I can.

You are not seriously thinking of putting an FFP3 on a child!??
This thread has to be a wind up!
You need to be fit tested as an adult to wear one of these properly, they are so uncomfortable and leave marks on your face. In the nhs when seeing covid positive patients you wear eye protection and a surgical mask. Unless people are ventilated or having an aerosol generating procedure

littlepeas · 02/01/2022 15:04

I can't get my head around anyone putting a mask on a two year old and think it's appalling that it has been the law in some countries. This generation of young kids are constantly looking at people in masks when they are trying to learn about the world, it isn't natural human behaviour.

Wolfiefan · 02/01/2022 15:05

Seems a bit extreme unless your child is particularly vulnerable.

By suffocating them??

I think you mean normal not natural. A lot of our normal behaviour is unnatural.

LakeShoreD · 02/01/2022 15:07

You can get kid sized disposable surgical style masks with fun designs on. I can’t imagine you could safely use FFP 3 mask and you definitely won’t be able to fit it properly. We’re flying next month and I’ll take some for my now 4YO to wear through the airport/on the plane but I won’t push it if she doesn’t want to.

Not really possible.

@Arabelladrinkstea

No - because that’s called child abuse!

There is no reason to try and force a 2 yr to wear a mask FFS!

correct - it is abuse.....................

Jeez it's not child abuse. 🤦‍♀️

I wouldn't put a mask in a 2 yr old but that's ridiculous hyperbole.

Gladioli23 · 02/01/2022 15:08

Irrespective of whether or not they are comfortable, the child would keep them on etc, I don't think you could get a 2 year old sized FFP3 so it would be awaited endeavour I think.

Svara · 02/01/2022 15:08

The best way to protect a child is to give them as normal childhood as possible, masking them teaches them to be fearful.

StrongSunglasses · 02/01/2022 15:09

Yabu

Cornettoninja · 02/01/2022 15:10

How is it abuse exactly (presuming we’re talking about a cloth or thin surgical mask)?

blablablablablablablabla · 02/01/2022 15:11

Yeah I'm just trying to do my best guys. I've not forced anyone to wear a mask. I was just wondering if anyone does it and if so, how the child reacts etc.

I had heard that in some countries it's a requirement and wondered how that works and whether it would be a possibility for us, should we need to get a flight.

I'm trying to work out why this distinction matters?
LakeShoreD · 02/01/2022 15:12

As per my first post she also wore one when she was 2 because we lived in the US then and it was mandated… we just haven’t bothered since we we moved back to the U.K. except for airports (don’t want a holiday ruined by covid!). But my point is that a toddler can wear a disposable mask, and in my experience most do ok with them for short bursts, but they can’t wear a FFP 3 like you’re proposing.

Franklyfrost · 02/01/2022 15:13

I have. They kept touching it so that defeated the purpose. According to the stats last year, two year olds are pretty bad at transmitting covid.

You mean they don't give covid to other people often ?

Children are not required to wear masks on planes. It is abuse as covering a childs face is a frighting experience for a two year old. I am sure that very basic research will show all the reasons why it should not happen. Why would any sane person mask a child?

So all the 2 year olds wearing them at day care in the US have been abused ?
