To let this opportunity go?

Hi all, I’m completely stuck on what to do in regards to my career situation and I need some opinions. I have been offered a new job (A better job) but I am completely torn on whether to leave my current job and take it. Here are some of the things that make it difficult for me to decide-

-New job means I’ll be working more hours and would have to put DC into breakfast and after school club
-Old job has benefits such as sick pay and more holiday entitlement (I have been there a long time)
-Hourly rate is pretty much the same however I work less hours in my current job.
-With my current job there is no room for progression however with the new job it is more of a ‘career’
-New job doesn’t pay sick pay only SSP.
-With current job we do have a chance of being redeployed onto something different due to the business suffering due to covid, however it is a big organisation so isn’t difficult for them to ship us onto a different project/company. Would likely be WFH to if this was to happen.

So basically I’m stuck between working more hours, in a new job role with the opportunity to progress after some time, or staying at my current job which has the benefits such as full sick pay and hours that work a little more around DC. (She does go to breakfast club in current job but I finish earlier so that enables me to pick her up from school everyday, wouldn’t be able to do this if I take the new one)

I know this is quite long winded so thank you for reading if you go this far, and if there’s any questions or I’ve missed something please let me know. I’m really stuck on what to do and I need to make my decision by 3rd Jan.

I'd stay put tbh

I agree, stay put

Stay put

I'd stay put. Children are only young once. Obv only if you can afford to remain on less hours etc. But then if you took the job you'd be paying more childcare, less holiday so you'd need even more childcare etc. Plus no sick pay etc etc

Thank you for your opinions, I really appreciate it and agree. The only thing that worries me with my current job is the fact they’re likely redeploy us and unsure if they’d match my hours ect so that is a worry. I wish I knew exactly what they’re planning for us. (They’re basically redeploying staff due to us loosing business through covid)

It depends if the new role would offer more in the way of job security? I guess it’s hard to know for sure until you’re there though.

In your shoes I’d probably leverage the job offer to negotiate more certainty/better pay in the existing role and accept the new role if they won’t agree, but that’s because I work on the theory people don’t generally go through the hassle of interviewing elsewhere if they’re 100% satisfied in their current role.

I’d stick with the company with benefits especially at this uncertain time. Not having sick pay would be too much of a worry for me.

I think I'd be inclined to stay put for the moment for the following reasons

  1. SSP
  2. Long time at the company = more security/rights
  3. Ability to pick DC up from school
