Meditation apps

Posting here for traffic...

I've decided that 2022 is the year to deal with all the crap going on in my head!

I'm looking for a mindfulness app but can't decide between Calm or Headspace.

Any thoughts / recommendations?

Thanks Smile

I prefer headspace meditations out of the two just because there’s more variety of voices to choose from, and I prefer British accents rather than American.

vivainsomnia · 01/01/2022 14:48

And I prefer calm! They are both good. They them and then decide which to sign up to.

@LethargicActress

I prefer headspace meditations out of the two just because there’s more variety of voices to choose from, and I prefer British accents rather than American.

I signed up for Calm. I am actually American and discovered too late that the American accents drive me to distraction. One speaker talking about "finishing that screenplay" was also bad news, maybe it was the content.

Balance is a good one to try too (and might still be free for a year).

I use Headspace's sports recovery meditation after exercise, and their sleep casts every night before bed, they've helped me a lot.

I’d say find an online meditation teacher. The apps are a bit commercialised and watered down.

I was going to suggest balance too - I got a year free subscription a couple of days ago. Headspace and calm also pretty good.

But you can get some good free meditations on YouTube. And the most important thing about meditation is to start shorter to get used to it and do it regularly. Having an app you pay for won't help if you don't make it a habit.

I thoroughly recommend Insight Timer - every kind of guided mediation, relaxing music, white noise and mindfulness course you could ever wish for (and no need to pay for the premium version)

Thank you Smile

I'll have a look at the other options suggested as well.

My thought process re paying for an app means that I am more likely to use it!

I've used headspace for years. They are amazing especially the sleep section. They are always adding new content. You used to be able to get a years free membership with a year membership to anxiety UK.

DarlingCoffee · 01/01/2022 15:55

Calm and Slumber are both great

Gillyx · 02/01/2022 10:41

Superhuman is really good and they do a 7 day free trial. It’s guided meditations and they have so many options, there’s cooking meditations, cleaning meditations, then running and seated/more classic meditation. I’ve tried calm and headspace and find superhuman better. You could try the free trials and see

Caneparrot · 02/01/2022 10:49

Insight timer - I like the yoga nidra for sleep but there are thousands to choose from and it’s free

BeLessMe · 02/01/2022 10:53

I didn’t like headspace and the insight timer hasn’t updated for the daily meditation at the time in the morning I like to use it before work.

I like simple habit, there are some free meditations but more available if you pay, but I will have a look at some of the other suggestions.

simple habit

TreacleMoon2 · 02/01/2022 12:52

Thank you for all your suggestions.

I've signed up for the years free trial of Balance - 2 days in and I'm quite liking it!

Just need to focus on getting some thoughts to stay out of my head!
