+ve for covid, vulnerable son, guilty and dirty

I have caught covid from my sister after seeing her for my birthday, so basically all my own fault. She tested +ve that day and me a few days later. I can't stop crying with guilt. DS is due back at school Wed, he's absolutely phobic of the swabs, he is on long term o2. I couldn't say this in real life but I'm scared I'm going to kill him or put him in hospital. We've not had it so far and so whilst we've been careful, he's been in school and going to dance etc. But now I have it the risk feels different and I can't stop crying. I feel dirty. Like I'm this pox ridden thing all my kids have been hanging off and kissing and licking for DAYS and now I'm disease ridden and it'll be all on me when they all get sick. Or if DH gets it and dies ill have taken their parent away from them for what? Seeing people for my birthday? I don't know how to stop these thoughts and actually function around them Ll

I thought the gift of Omicron is everyone will get it no matter how many vaccine doses they had. Vaccines reduce severity not risk of getting a +ve. Nothing to feel guilty about.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/01/2022 12:22

I can't vaccinate my 6 yo tho so I've got Al ltbe protection and he's got all the risk.

They do need a bath @PigeonLittle I'll make DH do it 😂. No chance of a me pick movie, I had that yesterday for my birthday and eldest just moaned through Happy Feet 2 😂. We can probably compromise on something containing Minions tho

Well if your partner can give them a bath time promise yourself a little bit of R&R , but make an active choice to do something mindful for 10 minutes. I find guided meditations on youtube helpful for 10 minutes and then I can slob out.

I'm sorry you caught covid.
I'm crossing my fingers for him that he isn't very sick if he catches it.
It's not your fault, the virus is everywhere.
I use to count the people I knew who's had it' now there is very few who haven't.
My cousin with down syndrome has been isolating from the start, he caught it and recovered no problem, his poor mothers mental health is shattered trying to protect him 20 months, you must be under so much pressure avoiding the virus too for so long. Flowers

My DD has a traumatic complex medical history and fear of anyone/anything medical. She wouldn't do LFTs to save her life and is also 6. Since they've made them nasal only she's been able to do it. It really doesn't have to go very far up the nostril. I got her a special handheld mirror and give her the cotton bud thing and she does it, probably only half the tip actual in her nose and we picked up her positive before Xmas easily. I just let her do it all in her own time and no pressure but realistically you know he can't go to school without doing it. Good luck Thanks

SleepingStandingUp · 01/01/2022 12:51

I know he can't, the option is keeping him off not sending him in to infect everyone. We've never dien tonsils, his are massive and he has his mother's gag reflex. If it becomes imperative he has one I would do it, u have hospital Mom threshold of doing awful but necessary things but I'd rather keep him off and untested given I can't get him there anyway (we walk the mile each way)

But if it is necessary, mirror and trying himself is worth a shot, thanks

The department of education has a phoneline, or did at least. Ask them directly for the protocol for going to school as a close contact. Regs change all the time.

PigeonLittle · 01/01/2022 14:02

And pcrs for children and more recent lfts involve the nose swab only not throat.

LIZS · 01/01/2022 14:06

There were trials of saliva tests going on, wonder if that might an option.

keepmovingslow · 02/01/2022 01:59

How are you doing now OP. Prayers xx

Babyghirl · 02/01/2022 09:21

@SleepingStandingUp
I heard on the news the youngest to get the jab was 7 or 8 I think because of health conditions his consultant requested it to be done maybe you can inquire about it for your son if you would give him them.

Treezylover · 03/01/2022 11:36

Hope you’re ok OP.
