What stage are you at with your training op? Degree/foundation years?

PaxRomana · 31/12/2021 17:31

Presuming you mean specialty training? Earliest you can apply is for entry after FY2 (so 5-6 years medical school, two years as a foundation doctor). Some specialties are run through (GP, radiology, O&G etc) so once you’re in the training it’s a matter of working through the grades to become a consultant (3 years for GP, 5+ for the others). Others are core training first (so 2-3 years of general hospital medicine/surgery) then a further application for a narrower specialty (e.g to become an orthopaedic surgeon or a consultant cardiologist).

Eh? They can apply for the jobs they’re training for when they finish training. For GPs that’s usually three years full time, longer for people working less than full time.

If you’re asking long they’ve been a doctor for then it’s a minimum of two years but often longer as some people spend years doing hospital work, working overseas etc. before deciding to apply for GP training.

When all post grad exams are done/passed/training scheme years are done and CCT is on its way you can apply. So if you want a break after you get your CCT.

I'd look for another professional. Being a doctor in the UK is shit. Low wage intense work blame culture monopoly employer
