Neighbour's basketball hoop

Inspired by the clean washing in front garden thread from yesterday...

The back of our house, including our bedroom, backs onto neighbour's drive. Since Xmas day we have woken up to the sound of a football repeatedly bouncing. Thus....thud....thud.....thud..... They have bought the kids a basketball hoop and put it on the front drive. Yes, they have a back garden. AIBU to think this is a tad anti social? If it's relevant, when they had their extension built a few years ago they repeatedly allowed their workmen to block our drive, to the point where I had to go round there and lose my shit after not being able to get out for work for the billionth time. At the end of the VERY long build process they brought us a very cheap bottle of shitty wine to apologise for the inconvenience.

They're twats, aren't they??

Get a life, it’s not unreasonable at 9am

OakPine · 31/12/2021 19:14

The people who think this is reasonable probably haven't had to listen to this.

In our street, it's bloody footballs, leather ones, being kicked against a wall for hours on end. Thump. Thump. Thump.

Poor children. Don't their parents ever bother to take them anywhere?

As much as it is annoying, perhaps they can't afford to go anywhere or there has been this whole covid thing you may not be aware of that has curtailed travel and most kids activities.

How about getting them a foam ball?

Hellocatshome · 31/12/2021 19:22

Weekday yes, but non working day

New-year eve isn't a bank holiday so a normal working day. Unfortunately this is a live and let live kind of a situation as long as it isn't before 8ish or after 10ish I dont think you have any real grounds to complain.

Mangofandangoo · 31/12/2021 19:30

My old neighbours kid used to kick the football at the fence all hours of the day - miserable 😫

Roselilly36 · 31/12/2021 19:44

They will soon get fed up with it, OP.

Of course. The parents don't take them anywhere. That's it. If they are outside playing with a ball they can never have been taken anywhere. They aren't pursuing an interest, honing their skills, imagining scoring the cup winning goal or just getting exercise they like. They are neglected. Unlike all those kids who aren't kicking a ball against the wall who are obviously, having their lives enriched constantly being dragged around somewhere aren't really just sat inside staring at a screen.

I currently live next to this. The semi rhythmic thudding can be irritating if it catches you wrong. But then so can the cars that run up and down the street. The power tools and the lawn mowers. The neighbour's wind chimes. The piano practice from the house 4 doors down. The two women who chat loudly across their front yards most mornings. Etc. But letting yourself get wound up about it only makes it worse. It's way better to accept and be glad that people are enjoying themselves in an urban environment and turn your attention to something else so that you forget about the noise.

We have a basketball hoop as my son is I. A team and practices. He is not allowed to play in the back garden as it annoys our elderly neighbours. He wheels it put into the side street snd pjs us there ( we are lucky to not live on a busy street snd he's 14).

Jowak1 · 01/01/2022 09:34

Sorry about the typos I have a Prosecco hangover!🙈

Better for kids to be outside than on computer all day. ISNT IT.

What's with the capitals? I have no problem with them being outside. It's the feckin thud thud thud of the ball that I have a problem with.
