Hayfever symptoms in December!!!

I'm really peed off from end of February trees, through summer to autumnal leaf mould I suffer, respite in winter but mother nature this year has decided its spring so sore eyes, runny nose, sinus pain. I know walking dogs who collect pollen makes it worse but it's not fair. Rant over 🤬

So I thought I had hay fever in December as did my daughter. But we did in fact have COVID. Assuming you don’t, I sympathise as I seem to have hayfever pretty much constantly.

Sounds like covid. Exactly what my symptoms felt like. Isolate and get a PCR if you can.

Sunbird24 · 31/12/2021 13:50

I’ve had so many weeks of random hay fever this year OP, I feel your pain! Have had to switch to prescription fexafenadine too, as the previously reliable ceritizine doesn’t even work any more.

Notimeforaname · 31/12/2021 13:54

Its fungus spores.

I only had issues spring/summer with grass, tree and weed pollen. But it has worsened with age like my dad. So still check the levels for things like that...

Here is my local information for pollen/spores today

Fungal spores will be high at times, reducing to low during heavy rainfall and heavy showers. Penicillium, Aspergillus, Basidiospores (from mushrooms/toadstools) & Leptosphaeria and allies will be the main types airborne, the latter during damp conditions, the former during dry. Other types will be at a low risk

How do you know it's not a virus though? Like any virus, not just covid.

cushioncovers · 31/12/2021 14:00

Snap. I've been sneezing and had headache and sore throat all week. Not a cold and not covid as have done a lateral flow everyday. But I feel yucky

lizkt · 31/12/2021 14:04

If it is an allergy, it can be from dust mites in your house. And xmas trees are full of mould spores.

Sunbird24 · 31/12/2021 14:05

I’ve never had a virus that makes my eyes itch and water, like running taps and cause continuous non-stop sneezing in the way that my hay fever does @lizkt. I’ve had colds, flu, bronchitis and other viral infections in the past, but none of them present in the same way at all.

mumwon · 31/12/2021 14:05

mould we have had a previously mild early winter & the leaves fell quite late
(sneeze & itchy eyes the later is not yet a defined symptom of covid -a -choo)

purplesequins · 31/12/2021 14:05

yep look up the pollen calendar for your area.
the warm snap means some nut trees, alder in sheltered areas got going.

Covidclaire · 31/12/2021 14:07

I think I’m affected by Christmas trees.

mynameiscalypso · 31/12/2021 14:08

It's this bloody mild weather. We need snow.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/12/2021 14:09

House dust/dust mites. Windows are closed, people are indoors for longer, central heating, decorations cluttering up the place preventing full cleaning, animal fur not being cleaned fully. Plus house mould spores with the increased heat and moisture from people and dogs indoors so much of the time/poor ventilation/cold and damp weather.

Mixture of vacuuming, steam cleaning/damp dusting and ventilation usually sorts it out - making sure that the mattress is vaccumed fully also helps.

justasking111 · 31/12/2021 14:59

Bally dogs fur sucks it up ggrrr

It’s penicillium an autumn mould spore, levels are currently moderate and driving me mad. With the season shifts in the last 15 years there is no longer a calm patch in December-January, last year the first trees were recorded in late December on the pollen trackers

Worcester university pollen counts, sorry I’m rubbish at clicks links gives up to date and accurate all year round counts on grass, tree, mould and weed pollen counts
