Fake carbs

postcardfromme · 31/12/2021 10:45

I've just seen a great thread about cutting out sugar. I need to do this as I have been eating my weight in cakes. I also love bread and can't stop myself despite putting on 3 stone over 2 years.
So I would like to know your fake carb ideas
I have a few;
Edamame spaghetti
Cauliflower rice

But I need more to inspire me!!

Courgetti, sorry

I think the chickpea pastas cook up very nicely, especially the small pasta shapes like shells. There is also a product called "carba-nada" that to me is almost indistinguishable from thin fettucine. If you can find frozen pupusas those can be a nice base for an egg in the morning. Premier protein shakes make good coffee cream in my opinion.

That sounds amazing! Making that.

Celeriac makes a lovely dauphinois, chips and mash.

Fathead pizza 🍕

Black bean fettuccine is lovely. I use it with itsu miso soup, veg, smoked tofu and a poached egg on top to make a noodle bowl. Also sprinkle with fresh coriander or mint. Absolutely delicious. Takes minutes to make.

Stop thinking them of being fake carbs please. They are the REAL carbohydrates unlike fake processed foods (bread/pasta)
What do edamame and cauliflower consist of? Mainly water and carbohydrates.
You just need to avoid refined sugar and processed foods.

I love kale crisps, they're additive. And cauliflower hash browns.

fourandahalfkids · 31/12/2021 17:09

I make a yummy pizza, mixing turkey mince, grated cheese and chia seeds for the base. I spread a bit of basil pesto on the base and top with ham and mushrooms. My children prefer this over regular pizzas.

fourandahalfkids · 31/12/2021 17:10

Also the cauliflower rice makes a lovely risotto.

ThinWomansBrain · 31/12/2021 17:14

the first time I did a low carb diet - fairly successfully - I did the full cauli rice, courgetti thing.
It's a faff - learn to love the vegetables, enjoy the texture without trying to make a vegetable a carb substitute.

Need to get back to it and stop eaying my weight in cake though Grin

AntiHop · 31/12/2021 20:35

There's a brand called explore who do spaghetti/noodles made out of things like edamame. Low carb, but not low enough for keto. I've successfully made a pizza base with cauliflower, egg and soft cheese. Surprisingly nice.

IggyAce · 31/12/2021 21:59

Courgetti
Cheese taco shells a little fiddly to make but they taste amazing.
Sugar free jelly & cream is low carb and great if you have a graving for something sweet.

greatape · 31/12/2021 22:17

I make pizza omelette with 3 eggs then treat it like a pizza topping wise and pop under the grill to melt the cheese.

I made a mushroom and artichoke one which was better than most pizza I'd ever eaten.

I use slim rice if I really feel the need for a bland filler with curry or a chilli as I don't like cauli much.
