Ours are a bit flat, rough and slightly greying. I'm wondering if they're reached the end of their time, or if there's a way to revive them? They're about 12 years old.

We got some as wedding presents 18 years ago, and some are a bit older. They are not supersoft but not too hard either. It's not very eco, bit tumble drying makes them softer. If I dry them outside they are (just about) ok. If I dry them on the clothes rack them they're nowhere near as soft and I sometimes give them 5 min in the tumble dryer.

Two sets from an America PX bought in 1994 and one set from Asda they are 8 years old, always use fabric conditioner and they are all in great condition.

Some of my sheets are from an American PX in the early nineties. Still going strong.

Probably ten years, from the last bathroom refit. Bath sheets from Debenhams as was, Egyptian cotton. White as easy to match. Previous ones were coloured to match bathrooms. They take up a lot of room in the airing cupboard.

Water softener and tumble drier keeps them soft and absorbent. Washing soda crystals keep them white. No fabsoft which makes them grey and water-resistant. Cheerfully go through a hot cotton wash.

They don't get vigorously rubbed like smaller towels so have outlived their brethren which have been replaced several times.

The previous batch were Christie's. Heavier and not as soft, coloured, so couldn't match them when the little ones got worn.

I did have a few gift sets from Plumbworld. Incredibly fine and soft like fur, but went bald in no time.

If you have hard grey towels, they may have a residue of soap and fabsoft. Give them a hot hot hot wash with a cup of washing soda crystals and nothing else. I bet the water goes grey and foams up as the residue washes out.

SilverRinghaBells We must have the same ones

I want to buy some new ones

Wasn't impressed with the John Lewis ones last time as the colour faded

I was thinking Christy - refresh or White Company - classic border towels

Some of my towels were wedding presents, so 36 years old this year. M&S, so have lasted well.

I find white ones don't fade.

Thanks

Ours will be 20 years old this autumn. They’re from Debenhams and were wedding gifts!

They still seem fine and come up nice and fluffy if they’re tumble dried.

warmeduppizza · 10/01/2022 18:22

Mine were my mum’s towels when she moved out of her parents’ home in about 1965. My DH requires fresh new fluffy ones every year.

JennyWren87 · 10/01/2022 20:33

My favourite is three decades old from when I was a kid. My second favourite I got for Christmas 2020.

sophiasnail · 12/01/2022 14:59

They range from about 40 years to 15 years old. They still do the job adequately, although they couldn't be described as fluffy.
