I hate the term twixmas but AIBU to wonder what you're all doing with your children in this period between Christmas and them returning to school?

OP posts:

We don’t have twixmas just Christmas, we use it spending time with family as they live all over so have mini Xmas days over and over throughout the period

Runnerduck34 · 31/12/2021 10:27

Twixmas seems a new term but I rather like it, reminds me of twixs!
We try and arrange things -seeing family, visit to Xmas light event, ice skating, stomp round grounds of National Trust type place, visit to the sales to spend Xmas money, pantomine, watch films ,play board games.. I deliberately save a few things that we used to do before Xmas to do in the week after Xmas to keep the magic going,it's when I'm off work so have less to juggle and more free time and can finally relax.

yomellamoHelly · 31/12/2021 10:29

Older children now, so this is where we kick back and relax. All Christmas obligations now discharged, so this is where I finally get my holiday.

nellyburt · 31/12/2021 10:29

We went away with extended family to a hotel with lots of activities on and in an area with nice walks and a little town to pop to for lunch. Next year I’d like to have a city trip either London or a European city. Dependent on covid!

Babdoc · 31/12/2021 10:32

Christmas comprises twelve days, OP, to celebrate the birth of Christ. So we are still very much in the middle of it, not "twixmas", whatever that is!
I think many people, especially non Christians, start their decorating and celebrating at the wrong time and far too early, ie during Advent, which is meant to be a time of spiritual reflection and self denial. Thus they are fed up of Christmas almost before it starts.
In some countries, they don't even give Christmas presents until Epiphany, to coincide with the arrival of the Magi and their gifts, which seems eminently logical and cheers up that dull bit in the first week of January.
Maybe we need to realign our timing with the actual festival, in order to enjoy it properly?

MisgenderedSwan · 31/12/2021 10:38

We enjoy the downtime. We're taking the dog for a forest walk later. The kids are currently building Lego and watching a film. I'm slowly deep cleaning the house while listening to podcasts and stopping for snacks. Most days look similar. We will be moving at some point before next Christmas so making sure everything Christmas is carefully packed away in moving boxes so it's one less box to deal with when the time comes. My dc are 9 and 7 and I am loving how relaxed and happy they are this year.

Gingerbreadrules · 31/12/2021 10:38

We spend most of our lives dashing around to lots of different activities so we are enjoying a bit veg out time this week, games, books, puzzles, maybe a bike ride or beach walk.

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 31/12/2021 10:43

Well in Spain we're only about halfway through as the kids don't go back until after the three kings (epiphany) which is when the main presents are given. This year they aren't back until the 10th January

Gingerbreadrules · 31/12/2021 10:43

Though we have had a trip roller skating and a couple of playdates too.

ZenNudist · 31/12/2021 10:50

Got rid of family on 27th, our holiday finally begins.

8yo new bike so first thing we did was go on a family bike ride. Then it's been a busy few days.

Lunch with friends followed by panto.
Trip to a lovely big park with more friends followed by festive light show.
Then on to stay with family where we have so far done lunch and presents, then today is swimming and a karaoke party. Tomorrow is NYD so we go out for lunch.

Then home to play with toys, play on xbox more bike ride.

I like the Christmas period up to New year.

Coasterfan · 31/12/2021 10:57

DS had covid and got out of isolation yesterday. We had to cancel a few things before Christmas because of it, he tested positive on 22nd so today we are going to the farm, cinema tomorrow, seeing friends for a walk Sunday and going to legoland Monday. Tuesday we ll go to town to sort some stuff they need for school then it’s back to work and school!

Usually we do nothing 27th then whatever we fancy, usually a combination of National trust, cinema etc and go away 30th to 2nd but we aren’t this year i cancelled it when it looked like restrictions were coming and I made the wrong decision. Hoping next year we can go back to our normal things!!

Rainbows246 · 31/12/2021 10:59

First year I’ve heard of Twixmas.

Anyway I work over the festive period (hospital) so don’t have the problem of being bored. I’ve had the full Christmas period off work about twice since I was 16 so I’d love it!

On my days off we spent time with family.
I was off yesterday so went into a very busy city centre for a mooch and food/drinks.
Today is a lazy so nothing kind of day which I love tbh. I’m working tomorrow.

I have a few days off next week and I plan to paint ( learning watercolours) pick up my home exercise I do weights, spinning and yoga. Maybe some outdoor air if the weather plays ball.

TheChild · 31/12/2021 10:59

Mine broke up later and are off until the 10th 😭 we are all going a bit crazy being cooped up but we don't have many options of outside activities due to weather/transport/money.

Eldest DD has become very good at MarioKart!!

Mummadeze · 31/12/2021 11:04

Had some of my DD’s friends over for a sleepover last night and they entertain themselves (she is 13). Today we are going to the cinema and to a buffet restaurant for NYE. Still planning to do a few more activities - shopping, attraction. We also went to a pantomime which was brilliant!

mafted · 31/12/2021 11:06

The younger ones are utilising all their Christmas gifts at home. The older ones are using all theirs out and about. They aren't short of things to do.

We've got a few plans to meet people we couldn't catch up with before Christmas and will probably go to the cinema or bowling and swimming too.

Thepineapplemystery · 31/12/2021 11:13

Eating, park and playing with Christmas presents basically.

littlefireseverywhere · 31/12/2021 11:47

We've been not doing very much. We had family until the 29th, so just enjoying a few days of downtime before school starts next week. Will do a long bike ride at the weekend and see some friends too.

lollipoprainbow · 31/12/2021 12:20

I feel cabin fever setting in ! We've been at home as dd is autistic and doesn't feel like going out. Back to work today and she is home with her dad, I worry she doesn't do enough.

lollipoprainbow · 31/12/2021 12:24

Very hard when you have no friends or family to visit or to visit you.

hangrylady · 31/12/2021 13:09

Twixmas. Can we just not.

userisi2 · 31/12/2021 13:31

It is the first week in a long time I have thoroughly enjoyed doing nothing. I am letting the kids play as much Xbox/iPad as they want, eat all their Xmas chocolate. All normal rules don't apply and I feel completely rejuvenated to have switched off so completely this week! Next week we will be back to school, after school club, all the after school activities etc, I usually make sure we have lots planned in the holidays. So this is a guilt free reset, a mini lockdown if you will Grin

Stompythedinosaur · 31/12/2021 13:33

Have been swimming and gone for some walks. A bit of sorting through toys and clothes to make space for the new Christmas stuff. Board games. The dc had some friends for a sleepover one night.
