To want to spend my 40th on my own?

I'm 40 in a few weeks and would love to spend a couple of days away in London on my own in fancy hotel and do bit of shopping and just spend time alone and have a lie in! .....however, I very rarely have time to myself due to busy family life and work so indulging on a weekend away seems a bit of a luxury and I feel guilty at the thought of it.

My OH does things on his own but I just don't seem to get the chance!

You're clearly not being unreasonable to want time alone, but the only person who can stop you feeling guilty about it is you!

ThinWomansBrain · 31/12/2021 04:07

Do it!
Although plan ahead; depending on where you're thinking of shopping - Oxford Street is a bit decimated at the momentShock

I celebrated my 40th by going to Iceland by myself, I had a brilliant time.

Definitely do it. Happy birthday.

Sounds wonderful! Maybe go to a show? Fancy restaurant?

Mudday · 31/12/2021 06:14

You're a dream come true for taking the pressure off friends and family for a usually insanely overrated birthday! Well done! Sounds like a win win situation for you all. Have fun, and if you want to feel guilt free, demand a random day for them to show they love you instead, it's important that you acknowledge they're a little bit relevant Princess 😉

Sounds perfect. Enjoy x

You don’t get the chance because you don’t take it.
Go to London.

KCee30 · 31/12/2021 07:14

YANBU. Sounds amazing! I'm 30 next month and would love some time alone. It won't happen for me, but you should absolutely go for it and enjoy it!

Anotherhill · 31/12/2021 07:17

If on your actual birthday it seems a bit mean on your family., but as a birthday treat on another day it’s fine.

LiterallyKnowsBest · 31/12/2021 07:38

I find that taking the time out for myself makes for a really memorable and relaxed birthday. Favourite hotel in favourite city, theatre, galleries, restaurants, room service …

And you ay surprise yourself on the morning of your 40th by waking up and suddenly realising you don’t want to live your life according to other people’s wishes or opinions and do want to please yourself occasionally.

Have you asked yourself why your partner has more, or better quality, free time than you?

LagunaBubbles · 31/12/2021 07:40

Why bother feeling guilty? Pointless

Irishgene · 31/12/2021 09:12

I know feeling guilty is such a waste of time and energy.....it's a long learnt bad habit!

Thank you for all of your lovely comments, my OH is more than happy for me to do it. I'd probably go the day after my actual birthday.

Thanks you lovely bunch x

@LiterallyKnowsBest probably because he just takes it and I always find something around the house etc that needs doing!
