To ask someone to work of the full time equivalent of my salary

Because I can’t bloody figure it out and no matter how many times and methods I try the figure I come up with does not match what my manager told me it was!! So I’m wondering if they’ve got it wrong?

There’s loads of online calculators to work out a pro rate of full time but can’t find the reverse and the formulas I’ve read to use haven’t helped me either.

Anyhoo if I currently earn 30k doing 37.5 hours a week over 39 weeks a year what would I be earning if I was full time?

And god bless you in advance for working it out!!!

So you also have 4 weeks' paid holiday? In which case, think of yourself as working 43 weeks a year (39 actually working, 4 paid holiday). I reckon that's the equivalent of just over 36K if your weekly hours remained the same, or 38.7K if you moved to a 40 hour week.

110APiccadilly · 30/12/2021 21:09

Is that 28 calendar days or working days you're paid for over the holidays? I assumed it was calendar days, but it's different if it's working days (4 weeks Vs 5 and a bit weeks).

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 30/12/2021 21:10

@wevemadeitagain

I worked it out as £34615

I get 7 weeks holiday/year so I’ve used that as a standard (it might not be!).

You get £30k for 39 weeks. If you were working 45 weeks a year you would be paid £34615 (30k x 0.867)

It means you’re not paid for holidays though which seems a bit odd. Might be worth double checking with your manager in case he/she’s used the same method I have and forgot to in included Holiday pay.

I’m wondering if she didn’t include holiday pay? Will be double checking though!!

might help

Does the 28 days include bank holidays? You'll get prorate annual leave + BH (if they are not included in the leave allowance). So your actual working weeks in a year (including holidays) will be around 44.

So essentially you are being paid £30K for 44 (ish) weeks work. 34K sounds about right for FTE.

Merryoldgoat · 30/12/2021 21:13

So you work 39 weeks
Get 28 days leave pro rata (21 days)

So you are paid for 39 plus 4.2 weeks = 43.2 weeks per year.

30,000/43.2 x 52 = 36,111 fte

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 30/12/2021 21:14

Thank you all a few mixed replies but I can see I need to double check my contract re: holiday pay/bank holidays etc.

This has helped give me a clearer idea than I came up with though!!

Merryoldgoat · 30/12/2021 21:15

It’s about a 0.83 fte

Ex-school payroll here.

You will be getting 5.6 weeks holiday pay on top of your 39 weeks work so paid for 44.6 weeks, employment law says this statutory minimum cannot be prorated for term time only workers. As a full time employee you will be paid for 52 weeks and you will actually work 46.4 and have 5.6 weeks holiday. So your manager is about right as you will only get paid for the extra 7.4 working weeks and not 13 weeks some PP have calculated.

Thank you. Remind me not to work in payroll I’d be terrible at it 🤣

I get £35071

£30000 ÷ 44.6 weeks (39 + 5.6 statutory minimum) = 672 per week

672x 52.14 (number of weeks in the year)=

£35071

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 30/12/2021 21:30

40k a year

Merryoldgoat · 30/12/2021 21:32

@loantopil

Thank you for this - HR don’t seem to be aware where I work so I need to review this next term and it looks like contracts will need to restated.

AGAIN

www.acas.org.uk/checking-holiday-entitlement

It's about halfway down there if you need to share with your employer

Merryoldgoat · 30/12/2021 21:40

Thank you - I found it a moment ago and the delightful confusion will be lots of our support staff are Term-Time plus a specified number of days in the school holiday so we might need to seek advice as to whether they are TTO.

Warblerinwinter · 30/12/2021 21:45

@BluebellsGreenbells

30,000 / 52 x 39 gives you £22,500

Less tax at 20%

My guess is around £1500 a month over 12 months

What?🤷🏼‍♀️ You’re saying she would get less for working full time🤣🤣🤣
BluebellsGreenbells · 30/12/2021 21:49

Warblerinwinter

I did apologize for mis- reading the OP!

wevemadeitagain · 30/12/2021 21:57

Sorry, made a mistake in my post above. £34615 is £30k x 1.15 (45/39).
