AIBU to not want to help with her book?

An American friend is self publishing a book. It's set in Scotland, I'm Scottish, and she asked me to look it over to check if the accents are relatively accurate. They aren't, at all. I pointed this out and gave her some tips, which she completely disregarded and laughed off as she said only Americans will read it and they won't know any different. So why bother asking me?

She's now asked me for help with proofreading but I don't feel inclined to do so as she obviously isn't that interested in my advice.

AIBU to refuse to help her?

Lol she's audacious and cheeky.

YANBU.

Tell her no and to find someone else to help with the proof-reading since she not only didn't take, but "laughed off" your previous advice.

You Are Most Definitely Not Being Unreasonable

I remember being in a Supermarket in Florida about 10 years ago and seeing a book titled something like " The Laird of Stonehaven" with the obligatory bare-chested, kilted "highlander" on the cover against a backdrop of Dunottar Castle.

I picked it up and flicked through and nearly wet myself laughing.

Another one that sticks in my head is an otherwise pretty well-written book but featured a castle in Perthshire with a secret (and short) tunnel to the sea. A simple glance at a map would have sorted that one.

I think your friend needs a dose of reality in the form of a paid proofreader.
