To call 119

My mum lives alone, is partially sighted and has to take a PCR test. She is unable to do it herself or get to a test centre. Should I call 119 and ask if they have people who can go into the community to do this? Our whole family is having to self isolate as someone tested positive after our Christmas get together, so none of us can help her. We all tested before hand but obviously LFTs are not 100% foolproof.

I was reading through the instructions on my priority pcr and this was on the back. I think what you might need to do is order her a pcr. Use the app so someone talks her through it. Then book a courier to pick it up.

All of this on the assumption she is tech savy enough to use the app.

She doesn't have a smart phone unfortunately and is not tech savvy in the slightest! This whole thing would be a lot less complicated if she was. Learning new things really stresses her out. She doesn't like change. We tried to get her to get a debit card during first lockdown so we could buy groceries online for her. It arrived and it scared her so she took it back to the bank!

Yes. Call 119. There may well be a community nurse or hca who can come out and help. There are arrangements in Northern Ireland for this - so I suspect Scotland is the same. Also she doesn’t need a smart phone or email to get a test. - again 119 can arrange this and call her with the results.

Our area has a mobile testing unit where they'll come out and help with the PCR (Grampian). I think it can be arranged via 119 or her local health centre.

I would call 119.

I am in Wales and we have covid hubs which help out with all things covid related (from LFTs to getting food to people etc) it might be worth checking if you have something similar seeing as the devolved nations seem to have similar approches to covid.

It is so frustrating that most processes covid related seem to be geared towards web access / being able to drive to test centres. It's really difficult for people without.

Thanks, I'll check that out.
It is frustrating for her that she's unable to do many things herself because of her lack of technology. She is very independent and very active.

Amazingly a family member managed to talk her through the test and packing it up and where to post it. They both deserve a medal!
