Am I at fault or should they pay

Over Christmas my sister took some bags to my grandparents and I took the others we then realised she had my 400ish pound shoes in a bag of mine. I said she could have some picture frames hadn’t used she wanted to pick them up so I told my partner she would be dropping them off and picking up the frames. Partner was at home all day and I was at work he then text to say he’s off out and spoken to my sister he’s left the frames outside and she will drop the shoes off. I text her saying keep the shoes in the car I’ll come get them I don’t want them being left outside all day said the same to partner but they both said it would be fine there suede and it was raining all day yesterday. When I called my sister last night to come collect them she said there outside my house I’ve gone home and there not there. No ones seen them they’ve clearly been stolen from outside my flat door no cctv either

I think your partner should pay. He changed the plan and told her to put them outside. I know you told her not to but he started the mess by changing plans.

BobLemon · 29/12/2021 14:17

You’re not at fault, btw. Not at fault, but down a pair of shoes Xmas Sad

BiggerBoat1 · 29/12/2021 14:21

Who pays £400 for a pair of shoes? Shock

I think its just one of those things. Nobody should be replacing the shoes at that ridiculous price.

KosherDill · 29/12/2021 14:26

They should reimburse you. Sheer laziness on both sides.

Spanglybangles · 29/12/2021 14:34

Reminiscent of an old SATC episode. Grin

If you can afford it why not?
LagunaBubbles · 29/12/2021 14:38

Not sure how such an expensive personal item ended up at your sisters? Confused

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 29/12/2021 14:40

It's 90% your DP's fault. Your DSis had been told he'd been in all day.

Explained (in slightly painful detail) in the OP.

People with money that like the shoes.

This was a Sex and the City episode 😂

You beat me to it.
Longdistance · 29/12/2021 14:45

@Spanglybangles weren’t they Manila Blanik (sp?) shoes. They had to take off their shoes at the door at a party and some sod stole them?

Yup and the hostess refused to pay for them as it was carrie's lifestyle choice to own such expensive shoes.

Bouncer500 · 29/12/2021 14:51

I would not give you the money. You gave her the shoes accidentally. She left them back. Someone stole them. The thief is at fault. Your sister shouldn't have to pay for your expensive shoes. She didn't steal them, buy them or even borrow them.

KaptainKaveman · 29/12/2021 14:55

£400 ? What do they look like?

Oliveoil26 · 29/12/2021 14:56

Shoes have been recovered a neighbor found the bag in a hedge on the way home she put photo in building group chat I’m so relived. Shoes ended up in sister car as when leaving my mums she picked up an m and s bag with box of shoes in and thought it was her m and s bag we had been rushing to pack up Christmas gifts and leave my mums

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow and then he decided to go out, and both OP and sister knew this and were involved in the change of plan. So how is that 90% his fault?

But the OP specifically asked her sister to keep hold of them and not leave them outside where something could happen to them. The sister left them outside and, what do you know, something happened to them.

The shoes getting mixed up was an accident, them being left outside was deliberate.

Spanglybangles · 29/12/2021 14:59

@Longdistance yep that’s the one. A pair of $550 (or there abouts)!Manolo Blahniks if I remember correctly.

Storm in a tea cup then 🤣 Glad you got them back! Sounds like they were pinched and slung by someone who was meanly pissing about, or didn’t realise the price they could get for worn expensive shoes 😉

So what did actually happen? When your boyfriend said it’d be OK, what did you say to him?

RosesAndHellebores · 29/12/2021 15:04

If they hadn't been found presumably insurance claim.
