Covid and football match

Is it selfish to go to the football match ( a big game ) whilst the covid rates are high? One partner doubled vaccinated the other not

I don’t get it, why would it be selfish? Do you mean the vaccinated partner might pass on Covid to the unvaccinated partner? One of the best things about vaccination is that you can get on with living your life and doing the things you want to do in the knowledge that you’ve protected yourself as much as possible.

It would be unreasonable for the unvaccinated partner to emotionally blackmail the vaccinated partner and/or curtail their social/active life.

Looneytune253 · 28/12/2021 17:53

No not selfish but need more context. Why is one partner unvaccinated? If it's down to serious CEV etc it might change the answer

Hellocatshome · 28/12/2021 17:56

Are they both going? If I was unvaccinated I might avoid it or at least wear a mask throughout even though its outdoors.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/12/2021 17:58

Of course it's not selfish for goodness sake.

CumbrianExile · 28/12/2021 18:03

If its premier league (and I assume lower English Football League) you have to sign a declaration that you are either double vaccinated or have a negative pcr/lft within 48 hours of kick off.

I will still be going to games while they let me - got to keep getting on with life.

LawnFever · 28/12/2021 18:04

It’s not selfish, what a strange idea.

Why is one person unvaccinated? If for no medical reason I’d say it’s more selfish not to have had vaccinations.

I dont get that the form bit anyway.just looked at the one for Chelsea and you just select match game tick agree and submit. But that's it. No way of checking it against your information and the checks at the gates are just a glance at your pass if that.
DaisyDozyDee · 28/12/2021 18:09

I think whether someone is being selfish would depend an awful lot on the context, including why one is not fully vaccinated.
I do know a couple of people who can confidently say that they caught Covid going to football matches. It’s not without risk, even if you are mostly outdoors. That said, the point of football is that it’s live sport. If you miss that match, you can’t just watch it in a month or two when case rates have dropped. Football can also be either a very rare treat or a regular commitment and at both ends of that scale, it’s a different proposition to ask someone to pass up the opportunity than it would be for someone who goes half a dozen times a season but isn’t too bothered about it.

Lindy2 · 28/12/2021 18:17

It's an outside event so safer than being inside but obviously anywhere there's a big crowd there is a risk of catching Covid.

If catching Covid is a concern then both people should get fully vaccinated. That's a booster for the double jabbed person and very obviously at least the first vaccination for the person who has not yet had any vaccination.

I'm a little stumped as to why soneone who hasn't had any vaccination, despite the vaccination roll out having been going for 12 months, is questioning the risk of being part of a big crowd.

CumbrianExile · 28/12/2021 18:28

Actually I didn't fill a form either. I clicked a 'I declare the above to be true' button on an email. It apparently covers me from the next home game going forwards unless the rules change/declaration needs change. That's for Man Utd. They've apparently been doing checks ok the passes since October but I've yet to be asked. We will see on Thursday though as that's the first game since the rules came in.

Partey · 28/12/2021 18:32

I’ve attended a league one and a cup game in the last week. The cup game was at arsenal and no Covid checks made whatsoever. League one yesterday checked everyone by way of looking at Covid passes

Hellocatshome · 28/12/2021 19:11

@Partey im going to guess from your post you are a Sunderland fan. My son just got a part season ticket for Christmas he is 14. He doesnt have a vaccine pass do you know if he needs to show proof of a negative lft at the gates. I have been looking at the website and cant find anything about it.

Kshhuxnxk · 28/12/2021 19:14

Not at all, selfish not to have taken a lft (with a negative result) IMO that's the only thing to worry about. Fully vaccinated and non vaccinated people can still catch and pass on covid.

skippy67 · 28/12/2021 19:19

No not selfish at all. Why do you ask?

WheelOnTheBus · 28/12/2021 19:19

Not selfish in the slightest. Why would it be?

Crazycrazylady · 28/12/2021 19:26

Honestly if the person who is doubled vaccinated is that's stupid generally a match attendance is the least of their worries.

Partey · 29/12/2021 21:46

@Hellocatshome no, only 18 and above need to show vaccine pass or test.

I’m honestly not sure they can physically check everyone tbh. There was less than 10k at Doncaster and 5 of those were Sunderland. It gets much more time consuming when there’s 30,40 or 50k at games

Darbs76 · 29/12/2021 21:48

Well by going to the football there’s a high risk of catching covid I’m sure - higher than just going to tesco. I think vaccinated or unvaccinated you’re going to catch it if you’re mixing in crowded places right now as cases are through the roof in many areas. We have 1800 per 100k which is higher than last winter

Darbs76 · 29/12/2021 21:49

@Partey - my son goes to Arsenal a lot and they don’t physically check them. They barely glance at them
