To leave a tampon in for 3 days?

Sorry, posting for traffic. I'm freaking out. Any medics around please? TMI warning.

I went for a run xmas afternoon and I forgot to take out my tampon. There was no string that I could see to prompt me and it was towards the end of my flow.

I developed a cold on xmas day and I've had one since. I can't smell a lot, but I kept smelling something 'off' and asked dh multiple times, but he said there wasn't. There's been browny/black blood droplets which I thought was odd.

Anyway, cut to tonight and I thought I would check and there was a tampon in me which had lost its string. I've managed to get it out and I'm sat in the bath.

Other than a cold, I've had no temperature or anything. I'm so shocked. First time in 30 years this has occurred. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I out of the woods for TSS? Any advice welcomed thank you.

As PP says, cold symptoms/ fatigue and (randomly) night sweats are key symptoms of omicron so it could well be that. Definitely worth getting checked but I’d do a PCR too

@NarcissaMalfoysManicure

Some of you are mingers. How do you just forget and not notice the smell???
This 'minger' washes twice daily and of course, noticed the smell, but having never forgotten a tampon before - a tampon that was so deeply wedged I couldn't feel it - I didn't come to mind as the cause. I concluded I had bacterial vaginosis and sought treatment for that instead, then later the tampon unexpectedly worked its way out.

I hope this never happens to you!

Out of A&E. Been given short course of antibiotics for slight infection.

I tested negative on LFT yesterday but I will get a PCR.

Thanks for all your replies. It seems that quite a few people have done something similar.

How can people compare forgetting your keys to forgetting a tampon inside you?
Clearly being brought up to be super clean and change your tampon / pad / whatever several times a day, is a rarity.
I've had periods for 30 years and have never ever forgotten to change.
I am never off my own daughter's back about period hygiene as well as showering each day, deodorant, perfume, teeth, fresh clean clothes, the whole lot. Personal Hygiene is important to me.

Glad you went and got treatment.

britneyisfree · 28/12/2021 11:12

I can see now this has happened to a lot of people so I think if you've forgotten before you should just stop wearing tampons, they clearly aren't the right choice for you.

Tampons are shit anyway but that's another topic.

And how can you compare thinking you had removed your tampon at the end of a period but actually not with poor personal hygiene? Unless you’re regularly rooting around deep inside your vagina you don’t know it’s there!

Nice try insinuating all those who have had this happen are somehow dirty and don’t bother showering or wearing deodorant. 😆

It’s great that you’re perfect and have never made a mistake. We will all learn from your mighty wisdom and completely normal unusually high standards. 👏🏻

It’s probably more likely to happen to you if you change regularly - maybe it’s only something that happens 1 in 1000 times, but the more you do it (and it’s just a routine thing you do without much thought…like picking up your keys), the more likely it is that it will eventually happen to you.
Mamamamasaurus · 28/12/2021 11:39

@heelforheelandtoefortoe

I can't imagine ever forgetting I had a tampon inside me Confused

Aside from being dangerous, its also very manky

Surely you would only forget if you weren't someone who changed regularly anyway, or had a disability that affects your memory or understanding?

We can't all be perfect. Good for you though 🤟🏽

You pester your daughter about changing her sanpro on your personal schedule, and wearing perfume? God, poor girl. Leave her alone.

I haven't done it but I can see how easy it is Get home a bit tipsy, go to bed. Get up in the morning thinking you've taken your tampon out and put another in The string comes off maybe and it works it's way up, so you forget you have one in

It's the same principle as forgetting your PIN - I've had the same one for 25 years and still forgot it once!

@Haudyourwheesht

This was my first thought - honestly poor OP could report back that she was in the throes of sepsis and some people would STILL reply that “she should do a PCR before going to A&E because COVID!” I think some people live very small, strange lives at the moment. 😂😂
