Covid politics making me miserable

nosleepgang4life · 27/12/2021 19:53

Had to rearrange our family Christmas due to my DS catching covid.

Invite everyone over on 2nd Jan instead and suddenly my brother won't mix with my auntie and uncle because they are unvaccinated. Causing all manner of uproar and family arguments now.

AIBU to think people are getting ridiculous now? It's so political. Huge fallouts, we haven't had a Christmas as we are in isolation, and now doesn't even look like we are going to get a rearranged one.

I just want it all to go away now Sad

I know it's frustrating for you on a personal level, but personally I wouldn't want to mix with unvaccinated people. Anti-vaxxers are a minority group who are causing harm to others. Personally I would uninvited them. Anti-vaxxers need to live with the consequences of their choices.

The best starting point is just to accept everyone’s decisions about themselves. And to ignore people who are trying to control others. That way, everyone is doing what they want to do.

In what way is that "covid politics" ?

Bluntness100 · 27/12/2021 20:02

I also understand their view point, unvaccinated are something like twenty times more likely to pass the virus on. And omicron is transmissable enough.

Also unless it’s for health, mentally or physically reasons, most people really frown on folks who aren’t vaccinated.

Bunnyfuller · 27/12/2021 20:02

Your auntie and uncle made their own choice. Other people are now making theirs.

I totally understand where your brother is coming from. I would probably do the same in his position.

SoniaFouler · 27/12/2021 20:04

They all need their heads banging together. Op YANBU. If your brother is throwing a tantrum then just uninvite him.

Noluthando · 27/12/2021 20:05

Problems in my husband's and my family too. People seem to be revealing odd expectations about how each other behave, with no prior warning. There's not much you can do to change people's minds. It's so hard as someone gets offended whatever course of action you take .

CorrBlimeyGG · 27/12/2021 20:07

Do you mean political in the sense of office politics, like a power play? As opposed to 'Boris is a c*' politics?

Noluthando · 27/12/2021 20:07

I am happy to mix with unvaccinated, as children are currently all unvaccinated and even with three doses I have caught covid and been showing up as infectious on lateral flow. So I don't think it makes much difference.

nosleepgang4life · 27/12/2021 20:10

@CorrBlimeyGG yeah exactly that - like office politics except family politics Hmm

Do your aunt & uncle have a good reason for not being vaccinated?

BertieQueen · 27/12/2021 20:51

Why can’t everyone just do a test beforehand. That’s what my family have just done for Christmas.

gulliblestravels · 27/12/2021 20:54

Is my body my choice a good enough reason?

HumunaHey · 27/12/2021 20:58

Get a grip.
Svara · 27/12/2021 20:58

Uninvite your brother if he is likely to cause issues on the day.

PersonaNonGarter · 27/12/2021 23:29

Why can’t you just invite them and they can come if they want?
