Upper stomach pain coming in waves, pregnant

Has anyone else had this ?

I can't sleep. It's really saw. It feels like it's my stomach. It's not like a diarrhoea cramp. It's further up. I feel a bit sick too. Can't sleep. It could be reflux maybe ? Does that come in waves ?

22 weeks pregnant.

Sounds like it could be a gastric ulcer! Sorry you’re suffering OP.

christmasmiracles · 27/12/2021 03:44

Thank you and I meant sore ! Not saw. Although it feels a bit like a saw. Sad

Possible gallstones, particularly during this hour if the night. Pregnancy can trigger gallstones because of the extra oestrogen . The description of it coming in waves was similar for me.

Call the midwifery unit to be sure. They are there all the time and won't mind you calling. Best to get these things checked out to ensure its not early labour!

Could be gallstones, it's quite common for them to flare up during pregnancy

ParsleySageRosemary · 27/12/2021 06:01

Just checking, so it’s on your left side not the right?

christmasmiracles · 27/12/2021 06:55

It's just kind of everywhere. Radiating to my back.

Both sides.

By everywhere I mean the middle of my upper stomach. Hard to explain actually.

I would call the midwifery unit to be on the safe side. Have you tried gaviscon or similar? Could be indigestion?

LakieLady · 27/12/2021 07:04

Definitely call the midwife. It's rare, but a friend had gestational pancreatitis which gave her awful pain.

Whatsdamatta · 27/12/2021 07:32

I’m going to say gall bladder too. Something to do with an overflow of cholesterol during pregnancy. It made my gall bladder flutter like a trapped bird and I felt sick and shit.

Is there anything you can do about it ? It could also be indigestion. I never normally have indigestion, can it manifest as pain ? Or is it always like an acid / burning feeling ? I barely slept and today my stomach feels so empty I feel sick.

I have been suffering from hyperemisis, so I'm used to feeling sick a lot. But it's been OKish with some medication for a few weeks. Still not feeling amazing, but better.

I have also been getting this thing where if I don't eat for a few hours I get really sick and shakey and weak. It's horrible. I'll call the midwife or GP.

Thanks everyone !

Get on the gaviscon.

tiredofworking · 27/12/2021 10:38

Could also be a sign of pre eclampsia so get it checked out ASAP.

ExtraOnion · 27/12/2021 10:38

I have problems with my gallbladder, and it sounds fairly similar.

I get a pain in the middle, just under my ribs - it’s not a sharp pain, but like a “bloated, eaten too much” pain. It will then radiate up to my shoulders. There is no comfy position to lie in, it’s just horrid… can last up to 10 hours, but it does eventually pass (it normally ends with me being sick, but that’s not a regular symptom)

Over the years, I can feel an attack coming on, so dose up with painkillers.

If it is a gallbladder attack, all you can do is wait for the blockage to pass - normally takes a few hours.

I also have Gastric Reflux … which is a horrid acidy thing .. I am on medication for that, and never very far from a packet of antacids !

Porcupineintherough · 27/12/2021 10:41

Well we've just had a nasty tummy bug that started that way but, given that you are pregnant, maybe you should seek some medical advice.

littledrummergirl · 27/12/2021 10:57

I had something like that with one of my pregnancies. It turned out that some milk had gone off and given me food poisoning. I'd used it in mash so didn't pick up that it was bad.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/12/2021 12:09

Epigastric pain can be a sign of pre eclampsia so do contact your Midwife

FriendshipsAreHardForMe · 27/12/2021 12:11

An internet forum is not a good place for medical advice. Please call your midwife or triage unit x

Well, thanks for telling me ! I had no idea.

I hope you are okay, OP. Please let us know. If it is not directly pregnancy related, I would suspect from that location some kind of ulcerative pain of the duodenum (sp).
