To dislike the use of "wow" for mediocrity

Lighthearted: I have an annoying colleague who says "Wow" to many uneventful things.

I've noticed it in American dramas too.

Is this a new catchphrase which has passed me by?

When I say ‘wow’, I am usually anything but wowed.

Well she is either a highly optimistic, positive person who sees - or tries to see - the exciting hidden within the mediocre.

Or she is saying it with a sarcastic eye roll.

I always quite like the first sort of person myself.

Do you mean sarcasm?

grapewine · 26/12/2021 22:20

I only ever use "wow' when being sarcastic.

MissMinutes24 · 26/12/2021 23:20

I often used it when someone has said something completely uninteresting

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2021 23:22

How about ‘wow just wow’ on here? That makes me Hmm

My baby says “wow!” all the time, but then she’s impressed by new things all day long...
She also says “whoa!” a lot, a bit like Joey from Blossom.

I feel the same about “amazing”.
