Where are all the Christmas Day walkers?

I feel like lots of people say a walk is part of their Christmas Day routine...

But I feel like when DH, kids an I go out for a walk on Christmas Day there is literally no one else out. We went for a walk today after breakfast (10:30am-12pm-ish), saw maybe 4 people. Our route includes walking along fields and through our market town. We're in the south east. And it's pretty much always been like this.

AIBU to think it's all talk and not that many people actually go for a walk on Christmas Day?

Just read that as 'wankers'

Sorry can't help 🤣🍷🍷

We went out, but turned back after 5 minutes as it was freezing.

That's too early though, OP - I wasn't dressed until 12.

We quite often have a walk after Xmas lunch. A couple of years ago after looking at the weather forecast which was lovely on the 25th but bad on the 26th we went for a proper walk with a picnic on Xmas and deferred the Turkey etc to Boxing Day. There were lots of other walkers that day.

But today... 4°C and windy, DD feeling a bit under the weather so we stayed in snug and warm. We're planning on getting out for a decent walk tomorrow.

Oh I know it's deffo too early but we have young kids, so the whole day start earlier than we'd like (and they go stir crazy if we don't get out).

DH and I were talking on our walk about future christmasses and look forward to staying our pjs until all day midday.

Sounds like a blissful start to the day.

We went to the beach with the dog around 10am and there were loads of couples and dog walkers around.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it wasn't heaving but it was certainly busy enough.

It was very wet here and even the dog declined a walk

I used to.. every year with dp.

My first year without him and I couldn’t do it.

And it’s peed it down all day as well here.. no chance lol

Chokkiesaurus · 25/12/2021 23:48

Not in the UK, but we went around 2pm and lots of people out by the beach. It was cold though, sea all frozen over. Had ski gloves but couldn’t feel my hands after 10 minutes. Still, lots of people out.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/12/2021 23:49

Far fewer today than usual. Not sure what that’s about, but it was a damp day.

Coughee · 25/12/2021 23:51

Possibly far fewer because of covid - people isolating either with it or waiting on test results

If we go for Xmas day walk - weather dependent it would be 3.30 onwards after finishing lunch before settling in for evening

Justcannotbearsed · 26/12/2021 08:16

Even before we got a dog it was part of our Christmas….dont eat dinner till 3 or 4 so getting out for some fresh air in daylight is a real part of the day. Always get out with friends on Christmas Eve afternoon too, walk and a pint.

I’d feel super trapped if I stayed in all day.

Largethighsbadeyes · 26/12/2021 08:27

I did. Saw a few people
