AIBU to disappear for a few hours on Boxing Day? But where?

Happy Christmas everyone

Have a 2 year old and MIL is here for Christmas. No plans tomorrow, but a rare chance to escape as we normally have no family support. DH and MIL could take DD to the park or play games inside. AIBU? And if not, where would you go with nothing to do?!

Any coffee shops open near you? My choice would be to go for a walk and a quiet coffee on my own.

BrickingIt44 · 25/12/2021 20:00

If you can drive, go to McDonalds for a coffee and just sit in your car somewhere

BoatingDown · 25/12/2021 20:13

@WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks @BrickingIt44 no idea what's open but I'm in London so there's bound to be a coffee shop (or McDonald's! @BrickingIt44) somewhere... maybe a book and a coffee is the answer

platerspinner · 25/12/2021 20:22

Massage at a spa hotel if any nearby

Iggly · 25/12/2021 20:24

YANBU

Not sure why this is even a question 😂😂

Schnauzersaremyheros · 25/12/2021 20:31

A trip to my favourite beach!

soughsigh · 25/12/2021 20:31

I would be angling at them going to the park, weather dependent. But book and a coffee shop definitely sounds like the ticket

I would start by asking them to treat you to a lie in - set no alarm and see if they want to take your little one out for a bit.

BoatingDown · 25/12/2021 20:52

Cinema and beach both great ideas! Wouldn't have thought of beach for sure.

@CurtainTroubles we both with full-time so weekends end up being the three of us with one taking her out and the other sorting groceries, washing etc. Assumed everyone else's lives were filled with the same drudgery 😂

If it were me, I'd download one of these voice map tours and enjoy being led round a part of London I wouldn't normally venture to. I've done a couple of them by myself and would definitely recommend.

Holly60 · 25/12/2021 22:05

Yes coffee and a book for sure. I have adult DC with young children and I am always more than happy to give them/their partners a break and take the DGC. You definitely deserve a break and some time alone to please yourself

BoatingDown · 25/12/2021 22:22

Great voice map idea.

Think it's coffee and a book somewhere or if I'm feeling really energetic my local pool is open so maybe a swim... now I'm realising it's probably sad that this seems like such a treat 😂

BoatingDown · 25/12/2021 22:23

@Holly60 I'm sure they really appreciate that.

IKEA is open! Go and try out their sofas for a bit and then enjoy a coffee and a cake.

How about a curry on Brick Lane?
