Dh started feeling ill on Monday, he went for a test which came back void on Wednesday morning. He got another test on Wednesday which came back positive very late Thursday. I started feeling ill on Wednesday, so I went with him for his second test and I also got my results but my PCR was negative. I did a lateral flow Wednesday that was positive and another one on Thursday that was positive. I have all the same symptoms as dh, an awful painful deep cough, cold symptoms and no smell at all. I went for another PCR Thursday which came back yesterday and again it was negative. I did another lateral flow yesterday that was a very faint positive and another today which was negative. According to the PCRs I've never had covid, but I can't imagine that I haven't given the proximity to dh and sharing the same symptoms. It just means I never got contacted by track or trace and given any isolation dates.

It's ruined our Christmas, when we had lots planned with family and I'm very sad about it but it's got to be done. Dh will be free for new year, AIBU to isolate until then and then do the same as him, I mean I can't really do more than I've done? Technically I don't have to isolate now, but that seems wrong as I did have the symptoms. I'm feeling very conflicted and confused why I've not tested positive.

I'm sorry to hear that - but yes, you should isolate: www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/09/negative-pcr-test-covid-symptoms-self-isolate

A positive LFT is unlikely to false and as the article above explains, even if PCR comes out negative it is ovewhelmingly likely you do have COVID.

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

How much longer should I supposedly isolate for, then? I had 2 negative PCRS, 3 faint positive LFTs and now one negative LFT. According to that I've never even had covid so I can't just isolate indefinitely to do the right thing. When do I realistically stop?!

I would do LFTs on Monday and Tuesday as they are your day 6 and 7 and if they are both clear, then stop isolating? Or just do the same as your DH? I know it’s rubbish but that’s life sometimes eh? I am also isolating and so fed up tonight.

The rules are 10 days from start of symptoms (or positive PCR if asymptomatic) - unless you get a negative LFT on days 6 & 7 (or any 2 consecutive days after day 6).

So, 1st of Jan if your LFTs stay positive.

Or 29th, if you get negatives on 28th and 29th on LFT.
