To say a massive thank you to our emergency services for working over Christmas, especially the crews that treated my dev last night.

Just that really thank you so much for the brilliant job you do!

Last night my dc had a medical emergency, local crews arrived in less than 6 minutes and administered life saving treatment. I could never thank them enough for what they did and will be forever greatful. I have seen all over the news about long delays and waits up to 12 hours for an ambulance, due to covid and staff shortages but that was not my experience at all, when we really needed them they were there. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and enjoys whatever it is they are doing today.

How nice to have a positive thread about this. I hope your DC is ok now

Would you mind saying what region of the UK you are in? I'm curious because I've heard dreadful stories lately from London, Sussex, Devon and the West Midlands, and I wonder if some areas are worse than others.

TedOnTheBed · 25/12/2021 12:22

We are in the West Midlands in a market town, it was the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Thank you for the well wishes @LakieLady
my children is on the mend now. He was blue and limp when they arrived, I am just so grateful for the rapid response car and both of ambulances that attended. I had seen all over the news about long delays and people waiting up to 12 hours for help, I am under no illusion that if that had been the case our outcome would have been very different.

Lovely thread OP Flowers
Glad your DC is ok now

FrankiesCheeseTruckle · 25/12/2021 12:47

Lovely post, glad to hear your child is on the mend, it must have been incredibly scary for you.

As a paramedic (that is thankfully not working today) it's nice to hear some positivity!
It's been pretty rough of late, a few of my colleagues that worked last night report that it was a dreadful shift.... (not in WMAS)

Merry Christmas to you.

JorisBonson · 25/12/2021 12:48

Glad DC is on the mend OP.

DH is nights until Monday morning so it's appreciated :)

Funnylittlefloozie · 25/12/2021 12:49

I am so glad your son is ok now.

I am eternally grateful for those people who work in our emergency services, and in allied services like prisons, keeping everyone safe at a time of year when everyone would much rather be with their own families. Paramedics and police officers don't make funding decisions- direct the criticism at successive governments who have deliberately buggered up our public services through lack of funding, so said services can be sold off to their business cronies.

IWasHotInTheNineties · 25/12/2021 12:53

They are angels. I alway have and always will be grateful, especially after this pandemic.

Horriblewoman · 25/12/2021 12:56

A few years ago we had to call out an ambulance on Christmas day for a guest in our house. They were the kindest loveliest people and helped make a very upsetting (the person died) day more bearable.

Massively grateful for our emergency services and healthcare system.

DH is a paramedic, and it's lovely to hear you had such a positive experience. I'm sure you will have done this already but I've put the link above so you can send in a compliment/thanks - it really makes a crew's day to get good feedback and to hear what happened next.

CorrBlimeyGG · 25/12/2021 13:02

I'm genuinely pleased your child is on the mend. But the stories you hear are sadly true, as my family knows all too well. That's not the fault of (most of) the front line staff though.

Porcupineintherough · 25/12/2021 13:07

Absolutely!

My son went into anaphylaxis on the 23rd and the care he got from everyone - paramedics, nurses, doctors, ward staff - was bloody amazing, even though they were under pressure and under staffed. And not only the medical care, so many people were going above and beyond to make Christmas in hospital less miserable for staff and patients alike. Made me really proud of my fellow human beings, a feeling I've not had in a while.

Helbelle17 · 25/12/2021 13:15

So pleased to hear he is ok.
We live in the East Midlands and have had a lot of paramedics out because of dd1's breathing issues. They have all been so nice and reassuring.
We really do have the best emergency services and many thanks to everyone working today.

AlfonsoTheGoat · 25/12/2021 13:20

What a lovely thread and how nice to see people thanking the NHS!

Suspiciousmind20 · 25/12/2021 13:22

Absolutely. We were just saying the same today. So grateful to all those working today to look after us all and be there if we need them. Lovely thread.

Thank you to all emergency service, NHS, social care and other essential workers. StarStarStar

BigGreen · 25/12/2021 13:33

Thank you to all of the health and emergency staff for working today. I get to eat my Christmas dinner with my kids knowing that someone will come if I burn the house down. I don't take that for granted - have a great day whenever you get to celebrate Thanks

EatSleepRantRepeat · 25/12/2021 13:38

A massive thank you to the families of these front line services too, giving up your special days for your partners/parents/kids to go to work and protect people.

My dad was police and we kids got used to him not being around on the big day, but we were very proud of him knowing he was out there helping people who were having a bad Christmas.

"Thank you to all emergency service, NHS, social care and other essential workers"

I'm glad that some people think about the lower paid sector as well. My DD works in catering in the hospital and is walking home from work today. She can't afford to run a car and the taxi situation is awful. My middle DD will be in the same situation next Christmas. There will be people working for nothing for four hours today. At one time the was an hourly bus service on hospital routes. People who work in MH care are often left out of the praise.

LowlandsAway · 25/12/2021 13:51

Hugely grateful and in awe of the people tirelessly shouldering our health service, and all other essential workers. Often for such exhausting hours and meagre pay. God bless them all.

mumofEandE · 25/12/2021 13:55

Good that you are all ok!
My paramedic DS (23) is on nights - last night and tonight so he is coming round for his Christmas dinner before he heads out for his night shift start at 6:30.

Thank you to your daughter. Catering in the hospital is really important too, I appreciate her Flowers
Pieceofpurplesky · 25/12/2021 15:46

Thank you to all those working today. Having had an ambulance out to mum who had a fall, and seeing how sad they were that they hadn't been able to get to her earlier, I can only imagine how hard it is to be so crazy busy and unable to always do what they want to do - which is save people.
Thank you and I hope people appreciate you as you deserve.
OP glad your DS is ok

CoopsMalloops · 25/12/2021 17:48

I’m glad your DC is ok.

I am also in the West Midlands and waited 4 hours for an ambulance last week.

The paramedics were amazing and said they were very busy.

toomuchlaundry · 25/12/2021 18:21

I'm so glad your DC is ok.

Lovely post, and I would like to add my thanks too
